Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain (opens in new tab)'s save-breaking bug (opens in new tab) alert is still in full effect, but Konami has managed to further isolate the glitch's cause while it works on a patch to retroactively fix it. As you may recall, the problem only occurs when you play through Episode 29 or 42 with Quiet as your buddy, and Konami's old advice was simply to pick a different buddy for those missions.
Still, many noted that they had already made it through those missions with Quiet at their side and their saves intact - her superior skills at laying down covering fire and picking off opponents make her a pretty popular companion character, after all. Now Konami (opens in new tab) says you'll be fine taking her along if you either use the Butterfly Emblem throughout the mission, and/or just make sure your Bond Level with Quiet doesn't hit MAX at any point in the episode.
I'm so paranoid about losing progress that I'd probably still pick a different buddy, but as long as you follow those steps, you should be fine. Konami says it's working on a patch to "fix the bug and repair any save data affected by the issue," so don't delete your old save if you were already affected. Until then, you can always start a new game for the express purpose of creating inflatable decoy torture chambers (opens in new tab) for your enemies.
