Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure preview

Before you dismiss this as a another game for kids, bear in mind that Pixar movies may seem like they're targeted at children but their tremendous success is due to their ability to create unforgettable characters, and tell incredible stories that cater to people of all ages. Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure was just one of the many Kinect games on display at Microsoft's Spring Showcase last week and we'll admit, we were immediately drawn to the idea of playing next to Buzz Lightyear in search of Mr. Pricklepants.

What is it? Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure is a cooperative adventure where you can choose to enter the world of Cars, Toy Story, Up, Ratatouille or The Incredibles and play through original story episodes that were created for the game.

Who is the developer? Asobo Studio is the developer and Microsoft is the publisher.

How does it look? It looks like you're watching a Pixar movie when playing this game. Every character and animation had to go through a round of approvals and Pixar does not mess around when it comes to quality. For Pixar aficionados, you'll encounter original characters that never made it into the films.

How does it play? In our demo we teamed up with Violet in The Incredibles to help Mirage out of a sticky situation. It involved a lot of running, jumping, flying, and swinging but we could do a bulk of the activities by just moving our arms. The game does adjust the controls based on how wildly you're swinging so for younger kids who like to go all out in terms of running motions, it'll adjust the sensitivity so they don't go all over the place.

The episodes are designed so that there are periods of "intense" activity but then it gives you a chance to rest by solving challenges that don't require frantic motions.

When is it out? Kinect Rush: A Disney Pixar Adventure's release date is on March 20.
