Here’s everything we’re getting in the Batman v Superman R rated cut

After being teased with a more adult version of the movie, we've finally got details on what we'll be seeing in the R-rated edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. I know what you're thinking; will it just be a bloodier, more swear-y version of the PG-13 theater cut? Well, sort of.

"There’s not a lot of blood in our movies," producer Charles Roven tells Entertainment Weekly. "The ratings board also judges their PG-13 and R ratings by what they consider to be a level of intensity and how much that intensity goes throughout the entire movie. There are some pretty intense scenes in Batman v Superman, and if they went on longer and had that same level of intensity, that might cause the ratings board to shift their rating."

Likewise director Zack Snyder insists that they're not jumping on Deadpool's coattails by churning out an R-rated version. This is simply a longer cut. "We were just like, ‘Okay, look. We’re not making a three-hour movie. I mean, even I didn’t want to make a three-hour movie. I drove the cuts probably harder than anyone. The studio, they were willing to let the movie indulge pretty hard. But I felt like it’s at a manageable two-and-a-half hours."

If we're not getting a bloodier version, but we are getting a longer one, then what's going to be in it? Jena Malone for starters. Her mystery character was snipped from the theatrical cut and will only appear in the home video release, along with this bunch:

"There’s a couple, like, Ahman Green, the running back from the Green Bay Packers, he’s in it. And C.T. Fletcher is like this bodybuilder muscle-guru from Compton, this awesome guy. He’s amazing, and he’s in it. And then there’s just a lot of these Easter Eggs in the Director’s Cut that I think are gonna be fun for everyone."

The extended version sounds like it's going to give die-hard fans a bit more to chew over, as opposed to completely changing the direction and tone of the movie. And with all those easter eggs Snyder mentions? Expect the Blu-ray to go the way of Superman and fly off the shelves.

Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Diane Lane, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Laurence Fishburne, and Amy Adams, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will arrive in UK and US cinemas on March 25, 2016.
