Full trailer for Thor: The Dark World: watch now

Thor: The Dark World has released a full-length trailer, giving fans worldwide the chance to see some of the material that was shown to the crowds in Hall H at Comic-Con 2013 .

The sequel is the next step in Marvel’s Phase 2 masterplan, picking up with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) after the events of The Avengers . The first thing on the Asgardian prince’s agenda seems to be healing the rift with his Earthbound love, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Given that he didn’t pay her a visit while back on Earth to save New York from destruction, we wouldn’t be surprised if he was still in the doghouse…

As we see in the trailer, Thor takes Jane for a tour of his homeland (with the film set to explore more of the mythology’s Nine Realms), where she gets rather fetchingly decked out in traditional robes.

Their reunion doesn’t exactly run smoothly though, with Thor having to contend with the uprising of the Dark Elves, led by Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith. Wreaking havoc on Earth and in Asgard, they look to be a formidable force.

And if that wasn’t enough to deal with, the hammer-wielding hero also forms an uneasy alliance with Loki (Tom Hiddleston), his adopted brother, who's currently languishing in a glass cell after, y’know, trying to take over Earth in The Avengers . Seems Thor needs his tricksy bro’s help after all, and the final shot of the trailer suggests that he might have misplaced his trust.

Pretty epic, huh? And it looks like Hiddleston might be stealing scenes again (that exchange with Jane being particularly delicious).

Co-starring Anthony Hopkins, Jaimie Alexander and Kat Dennings, Thor: The Dark World opens in the UK on 30 October 2013, before landing in the US on 8 November 2013.
