The Forlorn invade in new Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin trailer

Thinking about picking up the current-gen upgrade of Dark Souls 2? Well, you best be on your guard as From Software has revealed a new nefarious NPC that will be popping to remind you just how frail you really are.

Known as The Forlorn, this AI-controlled rotter is just one of many phantoms that invade your game as you explore the world of Drangleic, however, this extra addition isn’t locked to one specific area - oh no, it’s a persistent threat that will show up multiple times throughout your playthrough. The Forlorn will also team up with other enemies to rush you, so don’t expect these showdowns to be a fair fight. Then again, when were the Souls games interested in being fair?

Check out the official gameplay trailer below. Yeah, best stock up on those life gems and estus flasks.

The update will include all three of the previously released DLC packs (Crown of the Sunken King, Crown of the Old Iron King and Crown of the Ivory King) alongside additional enemies for a tougher and more varied challenge, expanded item descriptions and an improved matchmaking system for co-op shenanigans. However, as expected, all graphical updates will be locked to the current-gen versions only.

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin is already live as an update on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The game arrives on PS4 and Xbox One on 3 April in the UK and 7 April in the US.
