In the mood for dancing

Party season is upon us, and with it plenty of opportunities to make merry and head to the dance floor to show off our skills. We love a good dance on the team, even if we're not particularly good at it. Thankfully we're in good company as PlayStation history is filled with dancing kings and queens...

1. Space Channel 5

Dancing: is there anything it cant achieve? Segas sci-fi hit stars Ulala: a space reporter who is sent to cover alien hostage situations, which she then proceeds to negotiate by saving all the captives through dance. Obviously. Those Morolians just arent any match for a dose of swift hip thrusting.

2. Final Fantasy 8

No one puts Squall in the corner. Actually, no one should put him within 90ft of a dance floor. It may be one of FFs most famous scenes, but Squall and Rinoas ballroom romance at a graduation party only succeeds thanks to the latter working around our heros two left feet.

3. Tekken 3

All hail the cheatiest beat-em-up character who dared to exist on a PlayStation disc. Yes, we are of course referring to the king of Capoeira, Eddy Gordo. With just the mashing of two buttons, cheese-loving players could down Tekken masters and their juggle combos using this dancing dastards spinning routines.

4. Okami

You wouldnt think a game revolving around a wolf goddess would feature much in the way of dancefloor moves, yet here we are. Not only does Amaterasu get her four-legged freak on at one point, she also watches an old guy called Mr Orange do the Konohana Shuffle. Translation: drunken breakdancing, baby!

5. PlayStation Home

Sony tried to peddle its misunderstood living space as a progressive, state-of-the-art social experience. In reality? Twas just one big impromptu dancing plaza, where dudes would break out the Running Man at a moments notice. PSN boogieing truly is the lowest form of wit, perhaps that's why it closed...

6. Destiny

Want to tackle the King's Fall on Hard, you say? Nah, not tonight, mate. Oh, you need another player for the Weekly Nightfall? Sorry, were a bit busy over here. Quick bit of Crucible before bed? Wish we could, but were currently busting a Guardian groove in the Cosmodrome. Come on, nothing beats some idle Destiny D-pad dancing.

7. Heavy Rain

Whats the best way to pump info out of a shady underworld figure? Sexually suggestive dancing, of course. Rather than Woodward and Bernstein the mystery of the Origami Killer by chatting to men in car parks, super-sleuthing journalist Madison gets the leads she needs by busting a beat at a nightclub.

8. Dance Dance Revolution

The most famous virtual boogie-em-up of them all and a true pioneer, DDR evolved and branched out from the arcades of Japan to grace PlayStations the world over. Such was the series impact, West Virginia even imported it into state schools to assist with teenage weight loss.

9. Mass Effect 3

One would normally associate Purgatory with an in-between state of the afterlife, not a rowdy space bar where your ships pilot sheepishly tries to chat up a voluptuous AI. The crew of the Normandy love letting their hair down in this Citadel-based dance club; happily grooving all night in spite of the impending apocalypse.
