After GTA 5... here are 6 games that should go first-person

For your eyes only

For your eyes only

So, you know you can play GTA 5 in first person, right? The WHOLE game. The only bad thing about it is the fact that this amazing feature hasn't been done sooner. Driving is tricky, but whatever, it looks great and the shooting is now much easier to do. Even melee combat has a certain brutal charm in Trevor-vision.

And this got me thinking: what other games could benefit from the first-person treatment? Which game characters would I want to jump into the body of? Ew, maybe I don't want to be Trevor after all.

Pokmon

Pokmon

Since the dawn of time, humans have wondered many things. Are we alone in the universe? What is the meaning of life? What happens when we die? Will they ever make a first person Pokemon RPG?

If they did, it would answer a lot of other questions we have. Just how long is this 'long grass'? How do you manage to just stumble across an 8.8 metre tall Onix without noticing it beforehand? It probably wont end up being a game for kids though. Itll turn into a survival horror when you have to go in a dark cave and have Zubats flying at your face every three seconds. Oh, and the bits where you're trapped in the Pokeball for hours? Might be quite dull...

Dead Space 2

Dead Space 2

If youve played it, you've already guessed why Ive chosen this specific game in the series. Fair enough, seeing Necromorphs up close and personal would make ANY Dead Space even more scary than normal. But theres a particular scene in the second game that would be perfect for a first-person perspective.

Yup, its that bit where Isaac gets into the NoonTech Diagnostic Machine. It doesnt sound so scary, but it sticks a needle straight into his eye. Just imagine that coming at you. I dont even want to get contact lenses because I hate touching my eyes. Better yet, lets make this happen with an Oculus Rift for maximum "HolyshitIhateneedlesImgoingtovomitandpassout" moments.

Super Mario Bros

Super Mario Bros

The talented video creators over at RocketJump have actually made a couple of first person Mario videos, so partial credit for this idea has to go to them. There are plenty of 3D Mario games around now, so all it needs is the GTA treatment to bring the camera down to eye level.

Bashing your head against blocks may be a little disconcerting, but at least itll be easier to aim fireballs. Much like with Pokmon however, it might be a little scary for kids. Ooh, a pipe, can I go down it? Oh Christ its a Piranha Plant!

Football Manager

Football Manager

The Football Manager games are the ultimate simulation for the business side of the sport, but they could go one step further. What if instead of all the dense menus the series is known for, youre sitting in your office reading your emails, with the ability to move around, visit training sessions and the like? That would be amazing.

Then on match day you could have the managers view of the game. Leave your technical area and get up in the fourth officials face. Turn to the fans to make sure there arent any banners calling for your head. Maybe even have custom goal celebrations, or the ability to unlock new ones like the patented Pardew Punch or the Mourinho trouser slide. Hey, maybe you could even throw shoes at players during the half-time team talk.

FTL: Faster Than Light

FTL: Faster Than Light

FTL is one of the most frantic games around when it (the shit, I mean) hits the fan. Imagine how crazy it would be if you had to control each of your crew members from a first-person perspective. Dashing to the engine room to put out fires, hoping you dont run into an invading alien party when you round every corner. "She cannae handle it, Captain!"

Then you could get all the way to the final sector, run to the cockpit and look out at the vast mothership before you. Then it takes off half your hull damage with one shot and you say Fuck that and turn the game off. Thats what I usually do anyway.

Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed

"Im probably going to get comments like but Matt, first person Assassins Creed is just Dishonored! And Ill say to you but commenter, Dishonored was awesome. Although getting up close and personal with your targets would be cool, the best part would clearly be jumping off buildings into hay bales.

Admittedly, those dumb missions where you have to follow someone without being seen would probably be even worse without being able to see round corners and I guess for the majority of the game youd just be close up staring at walls figuring out ways of climbing them. Yeah okay, lets just have Dishonored 2 instead please.

Probably not the first person to think of this

Probably not the first person to think of this

Do you see what I did there? Anyway, the likelihood of any of these games going the first person route is probably slim to none. But how many of you would have expected GTA5 to do it? There could be hope yet. Let me know in the comments what games you would want to see given the first-person treatment.

While you're here, why not check out some more features? Here are the 25 Best PS4 Games available right now. Plenty of first-person games in there. For balance, here are the 25 Best Xbox One games. FPS agogo in there.
