The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came To Eden review

Island drama...

Seeking to establish a new Garden of Eden in the Galapogos Islands in 1929, a German physician and his mistress were thrust into a “strange, sinister drama” that involved a sexually adventurous baroness, lurid indiscretions and heinous foul play. Interweaving a collection of candid footage, photographs and journal entries (voiced by the likes of Cate Blanchett and Diane Kruger), this ambitious documentary illustrates paradise’s tendency to inspire corruption.

However, its unhurried pace and inability to wring tension from the conflicting accounts ensures that though it fascinates, the film never fully enthrals.
