The Dark Knight Rises has been given an official certificate by the MPAA, with the final part of Chris Nolan’s Bat-trilogy set to be a family-friendly PG-13.

That’s the same certificate that The Dark Knight was awarded with in the US, so expect that to translate to a 12A when the film is released in the UK.

According to Warner Bros.’ exhibitor website, the MPAA have made their decision in light of, “intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language.” So now you know what you’ve got to look forward to...

The Dark Knight was the subject of some controversy surrounding its 12A certificate, with some critics feeling that the implied violence and pitch-black themes were unsuitable for a family audience. The certificate would be another big coup for Warner, ensuring they reach the maximum audience possible with what will surely be their biggest release of the year.

Indeed, the film will be released in a whopping 35 territories in July, suggesting a spot of box office record-breaking is likely on the cards. The Dark Knight Rises opens in the UK on 20 July 2012.
