Has Sly Stallone not learned his lesson after the god-awful rehash of Get Carter that staggered bleeding and mutated on to our screens in 2000?
Clearly not, as he’s decided to cleanse his cinematic palate after Rocky Balboa and Rambo with a Death Wish chaser. He’s currently in talks to star in and direct the story of an ordinary man who cracks when his wife and daughter are attacked by violent thugs. He goes on a revenge-fuelled rampage, taking down criminal types left, right and centre.
MGM is the studio responsible for helping him perpetrate this particularly bad idea, though Paramount may also get involved thanks to some rights issues. Oh, and Terminator 3/Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins writers Michael Ferris and John Brancato are penning the script – or at least, they will be if the writers’ strike gets settled.
“We are looking at our library to determine which potential franchise properties make the most sense for us to produce, and Death Wish was clearly one of that jumped out," blabbed MGM chief operating officer Rick Sands to Variety . "We hope to get a deal done with Sylvester Stallone to direct and star, and like the Rocky and Rambo films, we see this as another potential franchise for him.” Oh, goody.
