Fan-favorite dungeon-crawler Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion has had a significant price cut of 36%, bringing the cost down to $31.99 at Amazon. That's a saving of $18 and very nearly a record low, making this offer one of the better board game deals we've seen.
Designed to be a more accessible prequel to Gloomhaven (which is one of the best board games around but also ranks amongst the most intimidating), Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion offers smaller adventures at a much lower price. However, it doesn't often enjoy a saving like this. More specifically, it hasn't been so cheap since June 2021.
Discounted or not, Jaws of the Lion is worth the investment for fantasy RPG fans. Casting you as one of four mercenaries looking to make their fortune in the city of Gloomhaven, it challenges players to figure out who's behind recent disappearances in a story that changes depending on your actions - rather than being a one-off experience, its missions are part of a longer narrative. These threads can then dovetail into the full Gloomhaven campaign if you'd like to continue exploring this grim-dark world of swords and sorcery.
While it's perfect for newcomers thanks to tutorials, guides, and a scenario book with the board built into its pages, Jaws of the Lion is also great for long-term fans who've already played the original Gloomhaven - it still has the same level of depth despite its accessibility. At the very least, it's a good way to fill the time before the sequel, Frosthaven, lands at some point in the near future.
