Will Beall is the script writer for 2018's Aquaman movie and also penned an early draft of 2017's Justice League. So when he says that those movies will help steer DC's movies into becoming more fun, well… he would know.
In a recent interview with Collider, Beall said that Aquaman in particular is "going to be fun, it’s going to be really fun. What we’ve come up with and James [Wan] especially — he has a really clear idea of the tone he’s going to have, and I think Aquaman is one that’s going to blow people’s minds, not just visually, but I think the story and the scope of it is really great."
And while Beall's script wasn't the one chosen for Justice League, he still has insight into the movie's tone. "I think Justice League again is, what you’re going to see - I hope I’m not going to get in trouble for saying this - but it’s much more fun, much poppier, than … I haven’t seen Wonder Woman yet, but Batman vs Superman was a little more somber. But Justice League is a lot more fun. And I think that feels to me like the direction those movies are heading now."
That all coincides with what we've been hearing about the DCEU post-Dawn of Justice, so hopefully everyone is telling the truth and DC's movies can lighten up a bit.
Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, J.K. Simmons, Amber Heard, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, and Jesse Eisenberg, Justice League: Part 1 is currently scheduled for a November 17, 2017 release. Aquaman is scheduled for release in the US on July 27, 2018, with a UK release date yet to be confirmed.
