Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation's Rebecca Ferguson is at the top of Marvel's shortlist for the lead role in its first female-driven superhero movie, according to a new report from Heroic Hollywood. Captain Marvel was announced last year and has since sparked a flurry of rumors concerning who might be cast in the title role. Supposedly the character was to make her debut in the final scene of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, an idea later rescinded to ensure the studio had found the perfect candidate.
After her scene-stealing turn in MI5, Rebecca Ferguson has risen in the ranks, fielding offers on plenty of major roles - even refusing a part in Fox's Gambit movie. As the site suggests, turning down the part of Bella Boudreaux - which went to Lea Seydoux - might have been a direct result of negotiations with Marvel.
Guardians of the Galaxy's Nicole Perlman and Inside Out's Meg Lefauve are currently writing the screenplay for Captain Marvel, based on the Carol Danvers version of the character. The film opens on November 2, 2018.
