My friend has everything Pokemon flavored, but do you know what they don't have? A Nintendo Switch 2. I had a sneaking suspicion that would change when Pokemon Pokopia hit the system. I'm regularly seeing them popping up on Animal Crossing: New Horizons while I'm happily tending to my Pokemon's daily whims and wishes, so I wasn't surprised when I received the text this morning.
"I'm folding on a Switch 2, where should I go?" Amazon's Spring Sale is in full force, but my guy needs that console as soon as possible. I track all the best Nintendo Switch bundle deals every week, so I started rifling through my retailers of choice. Eventually, I wandered over to Argos where, lo and behold, an extra bundle is offering the best savings of the moment, all with collection available today. This is what I fired back.
Nintendo Switch 2 | Mario Kart World | Stealth Accessory Bundle (case, wheels, screen protector) | £459.98 £422.99 at Argos
Save £37 - Nintendo Switch 2 bundles can be difficult to come by, but you're getting £459.98 worth of value for less than the regular RRP of the Mario Kart World package by itself. That Stealth Accessory bundle is normally £30 by itself, and the Mario Kart bundle already saves you about £30 on the game itself. That package has dropped from £429 to £409 and you're getting the extra gadgets for just £13 on top. It's savings upon savings.
Be sure to hit the 'Money off bundles' box to see this discount.
Let's break that offer down a little further.
The Mario Kart World bundle usually sits at £429.99 - it's the best way to buy a Nintendo Switch 2 right now, offering a substantial discount on the launch title (one I haven't seen replicated outside of the package).
The handheld by itself comes in at £395.99 (though it's currently on sale at Amazon for £385) and Mario Kart World sits at between £60 and £70 depending on where you go. Even taking Amazon's £10 discount on the handheld into account, you're still saving on the total £445 price of both items together here.
That's without taking the extra accessories into account. This Nintendo Switch 2 bundle essentially sends you home with everything you need to keep your console protected from day one.
You're paying £13 for this case, steering wheel set, and screen protector, on top of a discounted £409.99 rate on the Mario Kart package itself. Considering this is a £29.99 set at full price (currently down to £19.39 at Amazon) that's bags of value.
If you were to build the same Nintendo Switch 2 deal at Amazon you'd be spending £409 on the handheld and £19.39 on the extra accessories - coming in at £6 more than Argos's competing offer. If you're lucky, your local Argos will also be able to hand over your handheld today - not even the best Amazon Spring Sales can keep up with that.
Pokemon Pokopia is a massive system seller, here's why
You and my mate aren't alone in finally relenting to the Nintendo Switch 2 with the release of Pokemon Pokopia. It's the first real generation exclusive that's caught fire. Donkey Kong Bananza was great, and Mario Kart World was... not enough... but with the critter-catching franchise surging in popularity and cosy gaming on the up we're in a perfect storm.
Nintendo certainly knows when to release its escapist pieces, in much the same way as Animal Crossing: New Horizons took the world by storm in 2020, Pokemon Pokopia is giving many a neat little hidey hole in uncertain times.
It's not just the vibes of Pokopia pushing many to upgrade slightly ahead of schedule. We haven't had a Pokemon spin-off worthy of this level of attention for some time. With traditional releases proving underwhelming in recent years, and many feeling a little out-of-pocket after Legends Z-A released, this is a series that needed some new blood.
Take a franchise players want more from, pair with a gameplay style that's proven to capture a wider audience and I'm not surprised my friend is taking the Switch 2 leap a little earlier than planned.
