We've only gotten a single production still from the upcoming movie adaptation of Ghost in the Shell (opens in new tab) (which finished principal photography back in June), but some new photos (via Kotaku (opens in new tab)) have given us a fresh look at Scarlett Johansson's Major Kusanagi and the other members of the elite counter-terrorist unit known as Section 9 in costume.
Check it out below...
I'm really curious to see how Ghost in the Shell turns out; Many have justifiably accused the film of whitewashing because of Johansson's casting, and recent movies that have been guilty of that sin have not fared well at the box office. With that said, most will agree that Pan, Exodus: Gods and Kings, and Gods of Egypt were pretty bad movies, whereas Ghost in the Shell looks like it has a shot at being really good (not to mention the fact that Johansson has proven she can open a movie). With the film due out in March 2017, here's hoping we get to see some footage before the year is out.
Directed by Rupert Sanders and starring Scarlett Johansson, Pilou Asbaek, Michael Pitt, Takeshi Kitano, Juliette Binoche, Kaori Momoi, and Chin Han, Ghost in the Shell is released in cinemas on March 31, 2017.
