The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is basically Mass Effect: Expanse edition

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn sounds like a dream come true for fans of both the book and series. As shown at the Future Games Show Summer Showcase, it's a story driven RPG with tactical third person combat that takes place in and around the original story, only with a new set of characters trying to survive galactic turmoil and alien protomolecules.

For example, the game kicks off on Eros, a massive space station that eventually crashes into Venus after being infected by a mysterious alien organism known as the protomolecule. It's a major event that kicks off the entire Expanse storyline but, in Osiris Reborn, instead of following Holden and the main cast of the franchise, you'll take control of a Pinkwater Security mercenary captaining their own crew and Frigate.

Escaping the doomed station is the first thing you have to worry about but it doesn't get any easier once you've done that, as you explore a waring galaxy as Earth, Mars and Belter colonies teeter constantly on the brink of war. And all while a pervasive, infectious molecule, from an alien race some two billion years dead, threatens to infect and overcome all life in the solar system.

That might sound a lot like the main story of the show and books but here you'll be creating and playing your own captain. You can play as an Earther, Martian, or Belter and lead the crew of a state of the art warship. The fight to survive revolves around tactical cover-based combat, as you use guns, abilities and your squad to survive.

The companions you'll be fighting alongside are more than just expositional cover fire as well. You can take two of your crew directly into combat, while others support from behind the scenes - they all have their own pasts to uncover and their own motives, while the choices you make will affect their loyalty as the story progresses. It's a game of consequences that will test your leadership under pressure.

There's no release date yet for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, but we do know that it's coming to Xbox Series X, PS5 and PC when it does.
