Blizzard Entertainment has acknowledged that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Overwatch has launched in a less-than-stellar state after widespread player complaints.
Earlier this week, Blizzard confirmed that the previously announced Nintendo Switch 2 version of Overwatch would finally release alongside Season 2 of the new era, which saw Overwatch 2 go back to being just Overwatch earlier this year. The original post promised updates to visuals and "up to 60fps" performance, like the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. However, upon the launch of Overwatch Season 2, some were shocked to find that the Overwatch Nintendo Switch 2 Edition really isn't all that different from the original Switch version.
Over on the Overwatch subreddit, player complaints emerged in various posts shortly after it launched, with some speculating that Blizzard had released the wrong build of the game because it ran worse than the version on the original Switch. Blizzard updated its known issues forum post, with a blurb that reads, "We are aware of an issue with the FPS limit on the Nintendo Switch 2 being lower than intended. We are working on a patch to resolve this issue."
Article continues belowHaving played a game of Overwatch on the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, I can definitely say anecdotally that it feels way worse. The original Switch version on Switch 2 wasn't exactly a barn-burner in terms of performance or visual quality, but this new version is noticeably running worse than the original. Hopefully, the speculation of Blizzard releasing the wrong version of the game is accurate, and this is resolved pretty quickly, because there's no reason a console that can run Resident Evil Requiem and Cyberpunk 2077 so well wouldn't be able to handle 60fps Overwatch.
