Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, and we're all hoping this goes better than the PC port
Fingers crossed
Monster Hunter Wilds is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, and we've got all our fingers and toes crossed that it'll turn out better than the game's initial PC port.
Hot off last night's Summer Game Fest show, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Wilds is now in development for the Switch 2. There's no release date or even release window to look forward to, but we should learn more in the months ahead.
The Nintendo Switch 2 news follows right on from the big reveal of Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendence, the action game's first massive Iceborne-sized expansion that fans have been waiting for since launch.
Ascendence brings multiple new and returning monsters into the fold, new weapon, tricks, and a brand new region that's seemingly a collection of floating islands in the clouds. Neat! That's all coming sometime in 2027, so it wouldn't surprise me to see a Switch 2 port around the same time.
Still, the worry on everyone's mind is whether or not Monster Hunter Wilds will run better on Switch 2 than it did on PC. Folks playing on their personal computers had a notoriously wonky time with Monster Hunter Wilds, to put it mildly, for an entire year. Capcom's crown jewel had to claw its way out of the 'Overwhelmingly Negative' pit of Steam reviews, and it wasn't because the game was badly designed, it was just poorly optimized.
After multiple patches aimed at fixing its performance woes, Monster Hunter Wilds players were finally impressed with a few updates that came earlier this year. And determined to look on the bright side, Capcom recently said it's learning from the debacle to address potential "performance challenges" in the future, painting a brighter picture for Monster Hunter Wilds' Switch 2 version, perhaps.
Monster Hunter Wilds also recently sold over 11 million copies total. Good news. The bad news, for Capcom, is that the game's commercial momentum looks like it's trying to bike through 12 inches of snow, as 2021's Monster Hunter Rise and its expansion have been outselling Wilds for at least the last two fiscal quarters. A Switch 2 port should give the game's sales a boon, however, especially in Japan.
