Things are looking good for Square Enix at the moment. Thanks in no small part to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's staggered launch and Final Fantasy 14 gearing up for a new expansion, the company reported a huge increase in overall profits.
These numbers come from Square Enix's latest financial results, where it says the publisher has seen an 88.6% jump in operating income for the three-month period ending June 30. That's a pretty high margin, to say the least.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is listed as a specific reason for this, seeing as the blockbuster RPG arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S in June. It had a "solid performance," according to the report, alongside The Adventures of Eliot: The Millennium Tales.
Staying with Moogles and Chocobos, then, Final Fantasy 14's been putting in a strong shift to boot. We're on the road to the next major expansion, Evercold, and the buzz is being felt in Square Enix's accounting. There's been "improved user activity" in the MMORPG of late, stemming from the " advance recognition" of what's coming.
Eorzea's been a hive of activity in recent months, with the active player count crossing the one million threshold for the first time since early 2025. People are ready for what Evercold has to offer, and they're getting their friends involved ahead of the expansion's rollout.
Of course, besides the MMO's latest chapter, we have Final Fantasy 7 Revelation coming in 2027. I'd expect these numbers to grow again once both of these mammoth releases are available. Just one other question: when's Final Fantasy 17 coming?
