4v4 fighter Marvel Tokon will reportedly only have 20 fighters at launch, leaving fans underwhelmed at the idea of one team using "20% of the entire playable roster"

The Steam page for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has been updated, confirming 20 characters will be included in the launch roster, leaving some to wonder if that's enough for a 4v4 fighting game.

When it comes to fighting games, it's typically customary for a tag team fighter like Marvel Vs Capcom to launch with a pretty big roster due to the individual characters being less developed than you'd find in something like Street Fighter to accommodate a bigger selection of fighters – and to make it easier to remember the movesets of multiple fighters. 2XKO launching with only 12 fighters is one of the biggest criticisms about the struggling fighter, and with Marvel Tokon having 4v4 battles, some are expecting Marvel Vs Capcom 2 numbers.

However, others point out that despite the 4v4 team structure, Marvel Tokon isn't exactly played like a traditional tag team fighting game. "I played the beta and it’s not really a 4v4 tag game. It’s a 1v1 game with assists. With shared health bar, there is not a lot of inherent gain from tagging out," one user notes, while another explains, "people forget that it's not a Marvel vs Capcom game. the shared health-bar essentially just turns it into a standard fighting game with a character-switching gimmick, not really a proper 'tag fighter'."
