You might recognize Devora Wilde as the actor behind fan favorite video game characters, such as Baldur's Gate 3's Lae'zel and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's Clea, but you might not have known that she actually played quite a few different roles in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 as well. No bother, Wilde herself didn't quite believe she was in the bug-squashing game until it was out in the wild already.
Wilde is best known for her acclaimed fantasy RPGs, sure, but her voice can still be heard all over Space Marine 2, mainly thanks to hidden audio logs and voice memos. Though she didn't even realize it at first.
Speaking to IGN, the actor recalled how fans were the ones to alert her of the fact. "I started getting comments when the game came out. 'Oh, you're in Space Marine 2! No, I'm not. What is that?'"
She was still sceptical up until players started sending her clips of her Space Marine 2 voice lines. That's when she thought, "Huh, that sounds like me."
"In fact, people have commented that it sounds very Lae'zel. It does," she adds. "And then I was like, 'I guess that is me.' I had to go through all my stuff, all my emails, try and match up the code name of the game with the actual game. And then, in the end, I realized I was in that game."
In-development video games oftentimes don't disclose many details about the project to their cast, and very frequently, actors might not know what game they just contributed to until it's on store shelves. (Unless you're playing, you know, a helpless New Yorker begging Spider-Man for help. Then it's kinda obvious.)
"I think, with that one, because I just had a lot of scattered moments in it, I don't think I bothered to ask. And then, I guess I kind of forgot about it," Wilde explains. "When it came out I was like, 'Ah, that's me. I'm an audio log!'" A nice surprise, then.
