Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 star Jennifer English on her real-life partner being an antagonist in her upcoming project: "Just reflecting real life, really"

Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 actor Jennifer English is set to take on another exciting role as the star of upcoming action game Tides of Annihilation, and she's particularly "thrilled" to be working with her real-life partner and fellow BG3 star Aliona Baranova again.

English and Baranova met while working on Larian Studios' monumental 2023 RPG together, with English starring as Shadowheart and Baranova serving as a performance director, motion capture performer, and the voice of Corinna the squirrel. In Tides of Annihilation, English is set to star as protagonist Gwendolyn, while Baranova steps into the shoes of an antagonist named Mordred.

Baranova previously said that the two are "honored" to be part of the game that'll finally see them "playing opposite each other," and given their talents, it certainly bodes well for the performances we'll see in the game. Tides of Annihilation doesn't currently have a release date, so we'll just have to stay tuned for news on that. But, given that many of the best games from the last decade – Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Elden Ring, and Baldur's Gate 3 – all feature English, that also seems like a good sign (even if the actor insists that hot streak is "pure luck").

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's Jennifer English says it was "hard" playing two characters in the RPG: "I had to find the subtlety of it being the same but different."

After spending more hours than I can count filling The University of Sheffield's student newspaper with Pokemon and indie game content, and picking up a degree in Journalism Studies, I started my career at GAMINGbible where I worked as a journalist for over a year and a half. I then became TechRadar Gaming's news writer, where I sourced stories and wrote about all sorts of intriguing topics. In my spare time, you're sure to find me on my Nintendo Switch or PS5 playing through story-driven RPGs like Xenoblade Chronicles and Persona 5 Royal, nuzlocking old Pokemon games, or going for a Victory Royale in Fortnite.
