Despite serious backlash from fans, The Boys season 5 has reached a record-breaking 57 million views per episode
The Boys season finale is almost upon us
Despite weekly backlash from fans, The Boys season 5 is now the most viewed season of the entire series... and that's not the only record it's broken.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Boys season 5 has reached 57 million viewers per episode globally, making it "the highest yet for the series despite only five weeks of data, according to Prime Video." This also puts the season among the Top 10 most-viewed seasons of any Prime Video original series, and has reportedly driven the streamer’s largest three-week ratings surge out of any show or movie.
The news comes amidst constant negative feedback from fans, so much so that The Boys actors, including Laz Alonso and Antony Starr, have either reposted content that criticizes the series or have even directly commented on it. The Boys creator Eric Kripke has also given countless interviews explaining and defending certain plot choices (such as Marie Moreau being the only Supe powerful enough to defeat Homelander but choosing not to include her or the rest of the Gen V kids in the finale). The viewership records, however, have made Kripke feel a lot better about the negative feedback."
"I've gone through a journey when I first started to read everything, like on social media or online, and it starts to feel like that's the whole universe," Kripke told THR. "And it feels scary, and you have a pit in your stomach... so then [you see the ratings and] you're like, 'Oh, obviously, how many times do I have to relearn the lesson that the online world is not the actual world?’ [The online reaction is] a fraction of very loud, opinionated people, and God love them. They're welcome to have that opinion. But it's actually not reflecting what's happening out in the world. And once I saw [the numbers], I calmed right down."
The Boys season 5 finale will likely average a bit higher than 57 million views, as the final episode of the series is bringing us the show's most highly-anticipated character death, among other things...
The Boys season 5 finale drops next week on Prime Video. Stay up to date with our The Boys season 5 release schedule, or look ahead to the best new TV shows still to come in 2026.
