Kevin Feige has given us the first insight into the Avengers team dynamics in Doomsday – and I'm relieved by his comments
The new Marvel movie is switching up the team
Ant-Man will be a part of Avengers: Doomsday, but it doesn't seem like he'll be a main character. Kevin Feige has given us the first insight into what the team dynamics will be like in the upcoming Marvel Phase 6 movie.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the Marvel boss teased that Paul Rudd's superhero will be "more of an elder statesman now, dealing with other newer characters" in Doomsday. Now, we don't have a lot of information on the MCU movie at the moment, so any new tidbit from Feige sets our brains in overdrive.
This is one of the first major insights we've had into the new team dynamics among the Avengers and to be honest, it makes a lot of sense. Given the new movie will feature both new members of the team (with the cast of Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four, and X-Men) as well as older, more established superheroes (including Steve Rogers, Ant-Man, and Thor), it's natural that the interactions would change.
It's also a bit of a relief to know that the Russo brothers won't have all of the Avengers in the forefront at all times. It would be pretty impossible to juggle such a huge ensemble of characters so I'm definitely relieved to hear that some will be taking more of a back seat in the upcoming movie.
It's a particularly interesting tease too given the directors' recent comments about "starting over from scratch". Speaking at SXSW London, Joe Russo said: "We were with Rob [Downey Jr.] earlier today. We were both talking about this concept that we are back to phase zero. This is starting over from scratch. We want to make sure everybody feels like this isn't leaning on anything from the past."
The more we hear, the more excited we are for this movie. Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18. For more new Marvel movies, check out our guide to upcoming superhero movies.
