Disney planning Enchanted 2
Smurfs writers currently penning a script
Disney is set to move forward with a sequel to 2007 smash, Enchanted , with a pair of screenwriters having been hired to begin work on a script.
According to Deadline, J. David Stern and David N. Weiss are set to begin work on the project, having cut their teeth in the family arena on the likes of Shrek 2 and The Smurfs .
The original film was a critical and commercial smash for Disney, earning plaudits for its willingness to send up the studio's fairytale tropes, while also scoring $340 million at the global box office.
Hopefully any sequel will stick to that policy of balancing wry humour with a genuinely touching love story, and won't go chasing the kiddie audience too single-mindedly…
No word as yet regarding the potential returns of any of the original cast, although Amy Adams has always been open to a follow-up. As the beating heart of the first film, Disney will likely be making her the priority when the time for casting comes around…
