Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope, it’s screenwriter David S Goyer being sky-rocketed in to write the new Superman movie.
Should’ve seen this one coming, huh? Recent reports linked Christopher Nolan to the next big screen Superman film as something of a ‘godfather’.
Those reports were denied by both DC and Warner Bros. But it seems Nolan’s Batman buddy caught the studio’s eye as a scribe for the flick.
Latino Review have announced that the new Superman will indeed bear the title The Man Of Steel , and no, Brandon Routh won’t be reprising the dual role of Kent/Supes. This is what they had to say about the plot:
“I can tell you that Goyer’s story involves Luthor and Brainiac. It is NOT an origin and assumes audiences already know about Lois, Clark, Jimmy and Perry. I know the Daily Planet is struggling due to the internet. And I know it sets up a huge Kryptonian mythology.”
It’s looking to be a ‘back to basics’ approach that is being described as “modern, believable, fun”, with Bryan Singer unlikely to get behind the camera after the mixed reactions to his Superman Returns .
Goyer is popular in the comic-book-to-movie circle, having nurtured big screen versions of Blade and Batman in his time. He’s also been attached to X-Men Origins: Magneto .
Is he a good choice? Well, he’s sort of hit and miss. His first two Blade s were decent. His third (which he also directed) wasn’t. That said, it’s likely that Warner will mash his script through at least a dozen drafts.
Shame about Routh, we quite liked him. Keep watching the skies.
Anybody else think Goyer is the spit of Stanley Tucci?
