The best Warzone 2 M4 loadouts are varied, as it's a versatile weapon - but we advise going longer-range and accurate in Warzone 2 for the best results. At the same time, players focusing on Modern Warfare 2 M4 loadouts would best be advised to go for power, ADS and shorter-range builds, which tend to have the advantage. There's no version of the M4 that's actually bad - it's a very solid Assault Rifle that made it onto our best Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 guns - but how you spec it will make a big difference as to how it functions moment-to-moment, drastically changing strengths and weaknesses.

With that in mind, we'll cover two solid options for Warzone 2 M4 builds below - our preferred, longer-range option for gunfights across the Warzone 2 map, and a sleeker, smaller build for closer-range encounters, as well as options for class builds and the rest of the loadout.

Best Warzone 2 M4 loadout

The best Warzone 2 M4 build that we could find right now is as follows:

  • Optic: Aim OP-V4
  • Muzzle: Echoless-80
  • Barrel: Hightower 20" Barrel
  • Stock: Corio Precio Factory
  • Underbarrel: FSS Sharkfin 90
  • Receiver: M4

This M4 build excels in Warzone 2's mid-to-long-range distances, whether in building-to-building encounters or picking off targets in distant shrubbery. The Aim OP-V4 is a great optic that offers distance and clarity, the Echoless-80 is a solid silencer that amps up damage range and velocity, the Hightower 20" Barrel is borderline mandatory for the M4, while the Corio Precio Factory and FSS Sharkfin 90 both serve to keep the weapon under control, aiding with accuracy and handling over those long distances.

If you want alternatives, the SZ Lonewolf Optic and Forge-Tac Castle Comp muzzle are both very solid substitutes. On that note, while what's above works well for us, you should feel free to make your own fine-tunings, tweaks and modifications if you feel it could work better for you personally.

Best Modern Warfare 2 M4 loadout

On the other hand, this the best Modern Warfare 2 M4 loadout. It focuses on aggressive, pushing plays using these attachments:

  • Optic: Cronen Mini Red Dot
  • Muzzle: FTAC Castle Comp
  • Barrel: Hightower 20" Barrel
  • Stock: Corio Precio Factory
  • Rear Grip: XTEN Grip
  • Receiver: M4

If you want an alternative assault rifle to the M4, then the best TAQ-56 loadout in Modern Warfare 2 is worth considering.

This M4 build is consistent at short and medium range encounters, with attachments like the Forge-Tac Castle Comp helping to keep your recoil under control. The XTEN Grip improve your sprint-to-fire and ADS, which pairs fantastically with the Cronen Mini Red Dot optic. If you wanted to improve the control and versatility of this M4 build, you could consider swapping out the heavy Hightower 20" Barrel for the more lightweight 14" Carbine Shroud Barrel. If you're getting serious about recoil management, handling, and your ADS time, then that's something you should really think about – as is the Lockgrip Precision-40 under-barrel, rather than the Corio Precio Factory stock. All in all, this is a solid jack-of-all-trades setup for the M4, and one that'll serve well in the more chaotic battlefields of MW2 multiplayer.

  • Secondary weapon: Hurricane (SMG)
  • Tactical: Flash Grenade
  • Lethal: Frag Grenade
  • Field Upgrade: Deployable Cover
  • Perk Package: Assault

When you're starting out, stick with the basic Assault Perk Package, but when you start unlocking more perks for a custom package, we suggest choosing Overkill (Basic Perk 1), Scavenger (Basic Perk 2), Fast Hands (Bonus Perk), Quick Fix (Ultimate Perk). If you're opting for our long-range M4 loadout, the Assault Perk Package pairs nicely as it grants Overkill, which means you can carry a second primary weapon into combat. You'll want to pick up the FSS Hurricane, which is essentially the M4 as an SMG and is very good. The Commando Package is also good, and also includes Scavenger and Fast Hands.  However, if Overkill is essential, your only option is the Weapon Specialist Package.

Use one of the loadouts listed here and you should be able to improve your Modern Warfare 2 KD, but if you want to maintain your accuracy then make sure you ADS in Modern Warfare 2 as much as possible.
