Good news! Those Nintendo Switch hands-on preview events that Nintendo has been teasing for a while will be partially open to the public. Though it's probably for the best that Nintendo only confirmed which six North American cities the preview tour will come to, and not specific locations, because otherwise people would already be lining up and ruining their holiday plans (not to mention risking frostbite).
Here's the list of locations and times, straight from Nintendo. Note that the first two days at each location will have admittance by invitation only - though if you're a My Nintendo member, you might still get one. The general public will be invited in on a first-come, first-serve basis on the third day.
- New York - Jan. 13-15
- Toronto - Jan. 27-29
- Washington, D.C. - Feb. 10-12
- Chicago - Feb. 17-19
- San Francisco - Feb. 24-26
- Los Angeles - March 3-5
According to Nintendo, each event will let attendees "play select launch games in very original and surprising settings" and "each of these unique areas will highlight the different ways Nintendo Switch can be played". I hope they have a simulated rooftop party for you to crash with your Switch in hand, just like that socially awkward woman in the commercial.
Nintendo also plans to demo Switch at PAX South in San Antonio, Texas from January 27 to 29, PAX East in Boston from March 10 to 12, and SXSW in Austin, Texas from March 16 to 18. Don't want to leave your comfortable home until it's time to buy your own Nintendo Switch in March? I don't blame you, but at least tune in for the reveal event on January 12/13.
