Back in April when it was announced that Clone Wars would be finishing with season five, it was promised by Disney that it wasn’t the end of the animated adventures. And now we know what will be taking its place: Star Wars Rebels .

Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni, Young Justice ’s Greg Weisman and X-Men: First Class ’s Simon Kinberg as the show’s executive producers – with Kinberg penning the first episode – the show is in very good hands.

“I couldn't be more excited to explore new corners of the Star Wars universe,” says Kathleen Kennedy the president of Lucasfilm. “I think Star Wars Rebels will capture the look, feel and fun that both kids and their parents love about Star Wars ."

It promises to bring about all the same elements that we loved about Clone Wars . The series will be set between the events of Episodes III and IV which spans two decades of unexplored territory.

Most details about the show are a closely guarded secret, but it has been said that it takes place in a time place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.

Star Wars Rebels is set to air in 2014, with an hour special on the Disney Channel followed by a series on Disney XD channels world-wide.
