There are several Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare challenges that you'll need to complete if you want to 100% the expansion and see all it has to offer. Across the sharpshooter, hunter, four horses, and treasure hunting challenges, you'll be doing a lot of exploring and killing in the Red Dead Redemption DLC. You'll need to search high and low for infernal horses and other mythical creatures, and hunt down zombies of all different types to kill them in unique ways. You'll no doubt complete a few of these just as you play, but if a particular rank for any of these tasks is causing you problems, we've laid out some tips on how to complete every Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare challenge.

Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare Undead Sharpshooter challenge

Rank 1
Kill 5 undead in 10 seconds using a gun.

A rather easy challenge to complete since you can use Dead Eye to pull it off. Simply aim for their heads and you’ll pull off the 5 kills in no time flat.

Rank 2
Headshot 10 Undead in a row.

This was the one that gave me the most trouble. I would get to 8 headshots and then mess it up by hitting a chest or arm. I did however find the easiest way to pull this off is to stand on a stack of two crates or on a rooftop and let the zombies crowd around below you. When they do, their ripe melons are front and centre and you don’t have to worry about them charging you while you get a bead on them. Simply aim down and pop some grapes until you complete the challenge. Note that Dead Eye doesn’t work towards getting this.

Rank 3
Kill 5 flaming undead in One Dead Eye meter.

For this level of the challenge you need to set ablaze 5 zombies - sorry, undead - and then use Dead Eye to take them out. There are a few ways to do it; one being to use a coffin in a graveyard. Get a swarm of undead to follow you and then lead them through the burning coffin. Once 5 are alight, quickly use Dead Eye. Most of the time, however, the undead would keep dying before I could get 5 at the same time.

The other and most resourceful way is to save Thieves Landing from attack and get the firebombs for the reward. Firebombs will torch up a crowd in no time and leave you with plenty to pick and choose 5 from to complete the challenge. A good place to do this is the same place as the next challenge, right in front of El Presidio.

Rank 4
Kill 1 of each of the 4 undead types with 1 Dead Eye meter.

This challenge sounds much more daunting than it really is. The easiest way I have found was to go to the El Presidio in eastern Mexico where, at the front door, you will find all 4 types gathered about.

Rank 5
Get 5 undead sniper kills in 8 seconds without using Dead Eye.

Again, this challenge sounds a lot tougher than it really is. First off you’ll need to get your hands on the sniper rifle, which can be done by saving the Pacific Union R.R. Camp that is south of Tall Trees. Once you have the rifle, head over to Jorge’s Gap near Amarillo and hop on into the swarm of undead there. Simply start opening fire and eventually you will get 5 kills in 8 seconds. It does take some time for the rifle to reload, so try and make sure your shots are true. If you mess up, just keep firing.

Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare Undead Hunter challenge

Rank 1
Kill 100 fresh Undead and 25 Bolters.

This one will come along during the game easily enough as there are plenty of undead and Bolters that show up right from the start.

Rank 2
Kill 25 more Bruisers and 15 more Retchers.

The Bruisers are the buggers that charge at you and the Retchers are the ones that puke at you. Again, you will get these over time, but they do tend to appear more frequently over the course of the later stages of the game.

Rank 3
Use a single explosion of a Retcher to kill 2 other Undead.

Once you get the Zombie Bait, this one becomes a lot easier. When you come across a Retcher, get some regular undead to follow you and then toss the bait at the Retcher. Wait for the undead to take the bait and then pop the Retcher in his funky face. When he blows, he should take at least two undead with him. If you don’t get it the first try, give it another go and you’ll get it eventually.

Rank 4
Kill 2 Undead bears, 5 Undead wolves, and 3 Undead cougars using a torch.

First off, head to Tall Trees so you can find all these animals in one place. Next, make sure you are using one of the horses of the Apocalypse so that they are more resilient to being attacked - preferably Pestilence since it is “near impossible to kill”. Once you find one of the animals, stay on your horse and start whacking it with your torch. Don’t get on the ground and go toe to toe with them or else they will mess you up bad and fast. Also, once you torch them a couple times, they will run away and being on horseback makes chasing them down much easier. You can even pop them with your gun a few times to wear them down and then torch them, just make sure not to shoot them too many times.

Rank 5
Find and kill a Chupacabra.

The Chupacabra can be found in eastern Mexico, just west of Torquemada, where the three horses are on the map. Once it is near, the blue circle will appear letting you know it is around. It will look like a grey hyena of sorts and doesn’t take much to bring down. A couple of shots will do the horrific creature in once and for all.

Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare Four Horses of the Apocalypse challenge

Rank 1 – 4
Locate each of the 4 horses.

We've laid out the locations of all four horses in our Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare Mythical Creatures guide. You're looking for Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death.

Rank 5
Kill one of each Undead types using the 4th horse of the Apocalypse, otherwise known as "Death".

Nothing too difficult about this. When you have Death, you can trample undead and animals to one-hit kill them. Simply find one of each undead type - Bruiser, Retcher, Bolter, and regular Undead - and give them a good trampling.

Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare Undead Treasure Hunter challenge

Rank 1 - 5
Since you need to visit a lot of specific spots to loot chests, we've made a separate Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare Treasure Hunter guide covering all five treasures to be found.

Congratulations! If you've now got all those challenges to Rank 5, you should have unlocked the Mad Marston: The Trail Warrior trophy/achievement!
