New Condemned could happen if indies take the lead

Are you still waiting for a third Condemned game almost seven years later? It looks like franchise co-creator Jace Hall, who owns the rights, doesn't intend to pick the series back up any time soon… so he wants to give it to someone else to work on, instead.

Hall wrote in a public Facebook post that he's considering seeking out "interested and proven" independent developers to take over the first-person horror/brawling series and 'move it forward'. If you're not familiar with him, Hall led production on Condemned as general manager at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, though he's since left the publisher to lead his own online video production company.

The Condemned series stars Ethan Thomas, a crime scene investigator with a penchant for bare-knuckle brawling and stumbling upon the chilling plots of criminally insane sociopaths. Hall said people regularly ask him if and when a follow-up to 2008's Condemned 2: Bloodshot will happen, so the new development team would have a ready built audience.

He didn't mention how it would also need to manage years worth of expectations, but that sounds like a worthwhile tradeoff when getting people to acknowledge your existence is one of the toughest parts of independent development.

According to the post, Hall is still mulling the idea over - if you feel strongly one way or the other, hop on the comments and let him know what you think. And while we're at it, who would you like to see pick up the rusty pipe and get Condemned?

Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
