Harley Quinn's getting an all girl Suicide Squad spin-off movie

By far and away the best thing about the Suicide Squad trailers has been Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn; the Wolf of Wall Street actress looks to have perfectly captured the bubbly yet psychotic demeanour of Joker's sidekick, and it looks like we'll be seeing plenty more of the character beyond this Summer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is developing a Harley Quinn spin-off movie that will also feature female heroes and villains from the DC universe. Apparently names such as Batgirl, Poison Ivy, and Birds of Prey are being discussed, and there is already a female screenwriter on board.

The report also notes that Robbie was at the forefront of getting this project off the ground, stating that "she fell for DC’s female characters" while working on Suicide Squad and hired a writer to work on the film and pitch it to Warner Bros. The fact that they so readily snapped it up is a good indicator of the studios' confidence in Robbie's performance, and from everything I've seen thus far it's well placed. Here's hoping this one comes to fruition sooner rather than later.

Directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on August 5, 2016.
