Cosplay, videogames, music and more... Rebecca Moriarty reveals what to look forward to at this month's anime event

One of the convention's main focus - and strengths - is cosplay. Gathering some of the biggest cosplay names in the UK, who've won national awards and featured on TV, the convention is holding a cosplay social which is the first of its kind. AnimeLeague is looking to help cosplayers showcase their cosplay by making it not just a hobby but a career path. Many copslayers who attend the London Anime Convention have so much talent, from sewing to prop making. With some focus and guidance this could be utilised to help create some of the UK’s best seamstress’, prop makers, actors and models.
This networking event will be similar to that in the corporate world... but ten times more fun! Cosplayers can meet each other and get tips and advice from the guests. There'll also be the opportunity to have a professional photo taken by Sexy Cosplay Girls And Guys.
In addition, there is a real treat in store for gamers: as well as tournaments in DDR and Smash Bros , the event also has a tournament to beat Mike Pollock (voice actor of Dr Eggman) at a game of Sonic ! Likewise for David Vincent – try and beat him at BlazBlue ! As well as the chance of beating the masters, these voice actors will be holding voice acting workshops and will be available for free photos and autograph signings during the weekend.
As usual, London Anime Con has a strong music line up; headlining is Yama-B, co-founder of top power metal band Galneryus, and what is sure to be an extravagant performance from X-Factor finalist Kitty Brucknell! Kawaii YouTube sensations, j-pop dance acts Kimono Time and Abi Pop will also be live on stage.
Fashion lovers can show off their unique style in the Summer Otaku Fashion Show, which offers attendees who are aspiring models and fashion designers to show off their unique style and collections. Anyone's welcome to enter, no matter their shape or size. The show celebrates creativity and individuality.
The excitement of conventions can be draining, so it is important to stay hydrated and fed! Ai My Maid, the traditional Japanese maid cafe will be there to serve up delicious treats for attendees to enjoy, as well as making you feel like a lord or lady during the weekend.
