Crytek launching attack on Crysis 2 cheaters

Cheaters never win. That's the theory anyway; except someone forgot to tell that to the cheaters in Crysis 2, who are indeed winning consistently and causing considerable grief for law abiding players in the process. Responding to this, Crytek has pledged to release a series of fixes and tools designed to rid its sequel of nefarious cheaters for good.

"We do take cheating very seriously here at Crytek," reads today's message on EA's Crysis 2 forums.

"We are currently taking steps to permanently remove exploits from Crysis 2 and to penalize those individuals that choose to utilize them. We thank you for your patience and want to ensure you that we will continue to work hard to keep the integrity of Crysis 2 intact and cheat-free."

Last weekend, Crytek began its anti-cheating crusade with a patch for the PC version that added a cheat detection system and removed the game's auto-aim feature. Going forward, the studio will be releasing a number of further patches to fix reported exploits and bring the pain to players that circumvent the rules. That's the theory, anyway. As has been proven time and time again, cheaters don't die, they just get more creative. And by creative, I mean douchey.
