Floyd - True Romance (1993)

The Movie Slob: Floyd (Brad Pitt) is so supremely lazy that we don't actually see him ever leave the couch in Tony Scott's epic action flick.

Which is half the joke, because Floyd's an archetypal stoner who's just so chill (man) that he has no desire to leave the comfort of his cushions.

Grossest Moment: Floyd's general demeanour is what's really gross (does this guy ever make it to the bathroom?), particularly when yelling shopping orders from the sofa.

Such as: "Hey! Get some beer and some cleaning products!"

John Blutarsky - Animal House (1978)

The Movie Slob: Laziest and most shower-phobic (we assume) of all college students, Bluto (John Belushi) is the definition of slob.

It's a wonder he ever gets anything done considering how much time he spends drinking and partying. If there was a PHd in slovenliness, he'd get a First no problem.

Grossest Moment: Bluto magically transforms himself into a zit by filling his mouth with mashed potato, then punching his cheeks so the white stuff bursts out. Nice.

Uncle Buck - Uncle Buck (1989)

The Movie Slob: An unemployed gambler who makes his living betting on horses, Uncle Buck (John Candy) isn't exactly the ideal babysitter, but his unorthodox methods turn out to be inspired when he's called in to look after his brother's kids.

Seriously, though, you should see where he lives. You can't unsee that.

Grossest Moment: Buck cooks the mother of all pancake towers in honour of Miles' (Macaulay Culkin) birthday.

They're so big that he has to use a snow shovel to flip them on the stove.

Cousin Eddie - Christmas Vacation (1989)

The Movie Slob: Consider this: Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) is the kind of guy who named his dog (a Rottweiler, of course) Snot. Yes, Snot.

Which is just the sort of guy Eddie is. With his skin-tight jumpers and 'funny' anecdotes, he's gross to the core. But we sort of love him for that. If nothing else, he makes us look positively angelic.

Grossest Moment: Eddie advises Clark (Chevy Chase) of what to do if Snot starts humping his leg. "It's best to just let him finish."

Fat Bastard - Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)

The Movie Slob: A Scottish bad guy (played by Mike Myers) who's larger than life in every way possible. Which is another way of saying he's a vile, man-sized slug.

Favourite phrase? "Get in ma belly!"

Grossest Moment: Fat Bastard loses a load of weight (in Goldmember) and ends up with scary, stretchy skin.

Helen - Death Becomes Her (1992)

The Movie Slob: After losing her man to man-eater Madeline (Meryl Streep), Helen Sharp (Goldie Hawn) winds up in a psychiatric hospital where she's quadrupled in size and is obsessed with getting revenge on Madeline.

She's basically the definition of couch potato.

Grossest Moment: Helen eats cookie dough right out of the tub using her fingers. Meanwhile, there are cats everywhere dining on her leftovers.

Dennis Nedry - Jurassic Park (1993)

The Movie Slob: "Look at this work station!" rages Ray (Samuel L. Jackson) at one point in Steven Spielberg's film, shoving aside the trash on Dennis Nedry's (Wayne Knight) desk. "What a slob!"

He's not lying. Dennis is fat and lazy, using his desk as a dumping ground. And he's just as rotten on the inside as he is the outside.

Grossest Moment: The state of that desk is enough to turn anybody's stomach.

Withnail - Withnail & I (1987)

The Movie Slob: A so-called 'resting' actor (i.e. he can't find work so he's taking time out to, well, not work), Withnail (Richard E. Grant) lives in a sixties London.

There, he boozes up daily with his buddy while bemoaning life's injustices. Which keeps him busy enough to ensure he never has to raise a finger to clean his cesspit of a flat…

Grossest Moment: Withnail downs lighter fluid after failing to find any booze in the flat.

The Dude - The Big Lebowski (1998)

The Movie Slob: Though we love him to pieces, The Dude (Jeff Bridges) is nothing if not lazy - he rarely gets out of his dressing gown, for crying out loud.

Sure, he has time for bowling, and even manages to get arrested a couple of times, but that's all sort of by accident. The Dude is happiest when he's nursing a White Russian and dreaming about Julianne Moore.

Grossest Moment:
Socks with sandals? We just can't handle it…

Mr Creosote - Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life (1983)

The Movie Slob: A rotund fellow who's out for a night of dining. Comes with his own sick bucket so that he can empty his stomach in preparation for yet more food.

Grossest Moment: After eating far too much, Mr Cresote's offered a wafer-thin mint that he really shouldn't take.

Suffice to say, that wafer's the last straw, causing Mr Creosote to literally explode. Umbrella, anyone?
