First I got my Legend of Dragoon release, and now a ZoE HD collection AND a new game? 2012 is looking real good for gaming... It's almost as if companies are listening to their consumers... Who knew?

Ugh, all I care about is Z.O.E. 3DS, I'm hoping that shows up at E3. I was excited to hear it announced and it has been quiet since :(

ah the most badass mechs of all time are back. SCREW YOU EVANGELION.
  • BladedFalcon - May 26, 2012 8:47 a.m.

I still don't understand why people call Evangelion a "Mech" anime. Or mech anything. Yes it has mechs, yes, they fight sometimes in them. But really, the thing is more a teen and existential drama that happens to have mechs thrown around, than a proper Mech show.

    Lol good point.

Awesome! So glad to hear that they are finally adding another game to this series. and its about time they announced the HD collection, all the e-shops had stopped listing the game earlier this year as they had gave up on repeatedly pushing the release date back, seeing as know-one seemed to know when it was coming out.

I've tried explaining how awesome Z.O.E is to people for years. All they can come up with is "so its like gundam?". Lol now they will know the AWESOMENESS that is Z.O.E.
  • TreyTable - May 28, 2012 1:24 p.m.

Well, in Gundam I never heard of a mech that transforms into Gradius' Vic Viper. :)

good point. The most badass mechs of all time are returning. Thank god because I got tired of all the melodramatic I love her/him crap mech anime and games are full of.

Admittedly, I've never played any of the ZoE stuff, but it's something I've been interested in, especially knowing Kojima's behind it. Thing is, I have absolutely no idea what the gameplay's like :P Can anyone fill me in, and let me know if the HD collection's worth buying?

Well, basically, it's a third person action game, in which you control highly mobile and agile humanoid robot called jehuty. (I refuse to call it a mech because, well... It looks and controls nothing like any mech game out there.) The game uses a combination of close ranged melee combat and long range attacks, with Jehuty progressively getting more varied ablitites, from basic sword attack, to then getting shields, homing lasers, and even a massively huge energy cannon. But to me, what separates ZoE 2 (it's the game I choose to talk about, because it's my favorite one.) from pretty much any other action game, is that the action rarely takes place standing on the ground. You're constantly flying and rushing towards enemies in mid-air, and this made it feel different and constantly exhilarating, since Jehuty is FAST. And well the combat system is cool and varied, while always offering a consistent challenge and a variety of objectives to keep the experience interesting. Now, the game is not perfect. The story is nothing to write home about, the voice acting is cheesy and overdramatic, and movement can be a bit finicky when you're not locked in to an enemy. people back then also complained that that game was "short". Though I'm pretty sure it's at least 8 hours long, which frankly, for today's standards, it's a very acceptable length. But otherwise, the game still looks fucking fantastic, the artistic design both in gameplay and animated cut-scenes is top notch, and the game has several extras and even unlockable mini games. (One was a Graduis-style shmup using one of the game's robots, and another was a one on one fighting arena that allowed you to use any of the mayor robots used in the game) Granted, none of them are very deep, and they are short distractions at best, but it's still the kind of content you no longer see in games anymore. Anyway, people say images speak louder than thousand words, so maybe this video will give you a better idea of how ZoE 2 plays: So yeah... I'd say that the HD collection will most definitely worth buying. (I'll certainly get it, since it's been a long while since I've played the games.) But it's ultimately up to you to decide if it's your cup of tea or not.

I also wanted to add that, upon further looking into it, it seems the HD remake won't be a run of the mill upscale either. Not only it's bringing it to HD, but it's upping the frame-rate from 30 to 60 FPS. Which in this game, it's BOUND to show because again, it moves FAST. Textures and sound effects have also been worked on, and it even has a new opening animation, as well as added trophy support. So it sounds that they are not half assing it at least. Even if they don't seem to include much more than the core games (Though then again, what HD remakes do?)

I picked up ZoE on a whim, and found it was a lot of fun, so I'll have to keep an eye on this, and definitely pick up the HD collection when it comes out since I didn't play ZoE2 that much.
  • avantguardian - May 25, 2012 11:27 p.m.

you should be excited, 'cause ZoE2 blows the first game completely out of the water.

About darn time you guys posted this news. Out of all the crap that has been announced today, this is, by far, what has me the most excited. I don't care if they are just starting working on it, or if it will take 2-3 years to be released. I've been waiting almost a decade for this announcement, so just knowing it will FINALLY happen makes me happy. The ZoE series, specially ZoE2 is a fantastic, and criminally underrated franchise, and it's about time it was given another chance.
