World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria opening cinematic revealed

World of Warcraft's new race, the Pandaren, are a pretty big gamble by Blizzard. They hearken back to an age when WoW was much sillier than it has been in its last three expansion packs. For years, WoW has been on a more serious bent as they wove tales about the Lich King and Illidan Stormrage, and it's that tone that's won over most of their fanbase. But as we can see below, the Pandaren aren't quite so serious.

Some people credit WoW's latest expansion, Cataclysm, with causing the rapid decline we now see in WoW's subscriber numbers. Even if you don't necessarily agree with that, it's pretty clear that the Pandaren have a heavy weight on their shoulders. If the expansion doesn't go over well with fans, then it's likely that WoW will continue to bleed subscribers - especially with games like Guild Wars 2 coming out - however, if Pandaria turns out to be a success then WoW will have a great second chance at life. We're dying to find out which it will be.

Just makes me more impatient for MoP, in a time where I rarely get impatient for any game release anymore it's nice to see an 8 year old game is able to make me look forward to an expansion.

Next to their very first cinematic, this is definitely my favorite. Maybe my favorite cinematic of all time, thus far. Definitely stoked for it.

As much as I don't like WoW anymore, that was an incredible cinematic...seriously, probably the best Blizzard has ever done in my opinion.

I may go back to WOW for this. I dont raid or anything and the game was still fun for me. I thought Cat was a great expansion, the story was engaging. Some people just bitch to bitch.

I agree, on all fronts. It was fun, and the story(-telling) was stellar in my opinion. I'd say do it, if you can try out MoP first. Wouldn't want you to not like it and waste half a hundred dollars!

Blizz still knows how to roll out excellent cinematics, despite what anyone says.
