Unofficial Wii U Pro Controller looks like a SNES pad inside an Xbox 360 controller

An unofficial Wii U Pro Controller designed to resemble a SNES pad has appeared at various online retailers. The controller replaces the official Pro Controller’s d-pad and face buttons with a SNES-inspired colour and design configuration. As many observers have previously noted, Nintendo’s official Wii U Pro Controller is strikingly similar to the input peripheral for a certain rival console. So this hybrid approximation of the Pro Controller looks like an unofficial SNES pad inside an unofficial Xbox 360 controller. Here it is:

The unofficial Wii U Pro Controller is made by accessory company Interworks Unlimited and is priced at $34.99 (roughly £30/€38). According to the product details, it's universally compatible with Wii and Wii U, and is completely wireless. The only images we can find are Photoshop jobs like the one above, so we're intrigued to see what the actual tangible physical finished product looks like.

If this works on PC I may have to grab a bunch of them.

"If this works on PC, I may have to grab a bunch.." Sadly it does not, according to Interworks. If they were going to make a controller that -wasn't- going to be a Wii U Pro controller and mislead people with the name, why didn't they just make a straight up wired Classic Controller and save themselves the trouble of adding in Infrared, Speakers, Gyro and other unnecessary stuff that bumped the price up? If they'd just made a regular, wired Wii Classic Controller that plugged into the bottom of the Wii-mote, it would've been cheaper... plus, not only would Wii owners be able to use it, but owners of the Mayflash Wireless Classic Controller to USB adapter (such as myself) would also be able to use it. If they made a good quality, part old flat CC / part SNES controller. I'd totally spend $25-35 for something like that. Please read my post on Interwork's Facebook page... A comment after reading would be much appreciated.

"The controller replaces the official Pro Controller’s d-pad and face buttons with a SNES-inspired colour and design configuration" I still have my original official SNES controller and it has purple buttons and looks more like the Wii U Pro controller. This after market looks like the SNES controller that came a few years later when they changed the color schemes a bit. I guess the statement is true, I'm just being nit picky.

Nevermind, I saw the picture in the bottom left and thought that was a picture of the new Wii U controller. I'll go eat my crow now, OM NOM NOM!

I think you already got your answer but I will say this anyway. Both of the designs are inspired by SNES joypad colors. The colorful one was inspired by Super Famicom (SNES's name in Japan and outside NA region) while the purple one was SNES inspired. Hopes that help.

The colored one isn't a redesigned one, it's the PAL version.

Looks cool. SNES had one of the best and most copied controllers ever. I will pick one up if I can.

Why would it not exist? This is brilliant! Looks solid, it is cheaper than the official controller AND it works with the Wii. This will sell like hot cakes over the holidays. I'n fact I'm going to buy a Famicom and SNES version right now Lol

This is awesome! I'd buy one. Will it be available in the US? $35 is quite a bit cheaper than the official controller.

Hey that's pretty cool! It loo- wait... why the fudge does it have a + and - button AND a Start and Select!? They're gonna do the same thing! I was gonna say "well it least it gives you options" but then you may as well make a pad with two of EVERYTHING. Try and imagine THAT. Actually, is it just me or do they not look like buttons at all...? *squints*

Aww, that's pretty cute, really. I like how what used to look like a horrible mess to me- the analog stick and face buttons being reversed- is used to their advantage here. Any idea how much it would cost above a standard official controller?
