TGS 2011: Konami announces new Suikoden sequel for PSP, anime teaser released

Fans of Konami's Suikoden RPG series, long on life-support with low hope for recovery, will be glad to hear the company's announced a new spin-off for the PSP.  Genso Suikoden: Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki (which translates roughly as “The Centennial Tapestry”) doesn't have any release details yet, but there's already a teaser thick with animated action.

Suikoden has been radio silent since 2009's well-received DS spinoff, Suikoden Tierkreis. PSP players haven't had a taste of the series since Konami remade the first two titles in the series for the handheld – and that collection never made it out of Japan. No for a localized version of Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki have emerged yet, but the title already has a teaser website and Japanese-only Twitter feed.

In an interview conducted by Japanese website regarding the RPG Frontier Gate, Konami developers revealed that the Suikoden development team has been disbanded with members scattered about teams within Konami and elsewhere. This has led to speculation that the franchise may indeed have been abandoned following disappointing sales of the latest entries in the series. [4] Despite these rumours, Konami presented a trailer for a new Suikoden game on Tokyo Game Show 2011: Genso Suikoden: The Woven Web of a Century (Genso Suikoden Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki). It is scheduled to come out on PSP. - Wikipedia S'koden 1, 2 and 5 were great. It seems like they were just getting the hang of making the franchise great again when they got brokeded up, eh? So does this mean this announced game'll be a shadow of ye olde?

I played through the first 5 as they came out, and was recently wondering if I'd still enjoy a Suikoden if I were offered a new one. I think I would, on a console, but I'm not thrilled enough to pull out my PSP for one now.
