Tales of Xillia coming to North America

Namco Bandai announced today that their long-running, critically lauded RPG series "Tales" will be getting new installments in North America. The first up will be Tales of Xillia, which previously released to critical praise in Japan on September 8, 2012, and is now planned for a 2013 release in NA and Europe.

The series producer, Hideo Baba, said at Japan Expo in Paris today that there's "a good chance" that the game's direct sequel "Tales of Xillia 2" will be released in North America and Europe as well if the first game sells decently.

Tales of Xillia has been extremely well received in Japan, garnering a near perfect score from Famitsu (39/40). Tales of Xillia 2 will be arriving in Japan on November 1, 2012.

Awesome! It's always great to hear another entry in the series will be coming stateside, and after playing Tales of Graces f, I'm certainly ready for another one. I hope it does well enough to get Xillia 2 over here too. Finally, it appears Namco is making a push to get the series more exposure in the west, and it's about time.

hardly, the 360 leads a nice existence in Japan, same can be said about J-Rpgs in the West. I hardly think that many developers/publishers throw much money into ports which will most likely not sell well

whoops, I intended to reply MassSaber.. why's my post at the top? <.<

and its "niche existence" GR, a correct-feature is still greatly missing!

I'm pretty sure Tales of Xillia wasn't released in Japan on September 8, 2012, mainly due to the fact that that date hasn't happened yet. (I think you meant 2011) But anyway, this announcement is very exciting. That game has looked incredible for some time now, and I think it'll do well.

Geez finally D: I was really worried that they would never release it to NA after Xillia 2 was announced >< Well, hopefully it does well so that the 2nd one will also be released to NA :D

Well it's about damn time. I've been having a good time with Tales of Graces f, and now I get to look forward to Xillia too.

Awesome. I've been looking to get into the Tales of series for a while now. I'm getting Tales of the Abyss for 3DS pretty soon, and whenever I beat it I plan to pick up Tales of Graces f. I guess this is another to add to the list.

Get Tales of Graces f. Seriously, it's freakin' great. Famitsu rated it 38/40. Most people's complaints is that some of the bosses can ramp up in difficulty, but I lost on a boss, farmed the area before her for a bit to level up (I had gotten used to avoiding fights... not the best strategy) and then I completely mopped the floor with her (After I strategically got some skills that exploit her weaknesses). Play it smart and the game's not too difficult, and if you're really tough, there's plenty of extra difficulties and battle modes to unlock. It's pretty damn good. Worth $60 imo. It's the only game on my PS3 I've played non-stop, I actually have it paused right now heheh.

I will second that. Graces f is also the only PS3 game I have played non-stop since purchase. It's really great, and if Xillia is better according to Famitsu...

Well keep in mind that Famitsu uses 4 reviewers then adds up their scores. So a bump in one point is just one reviewer giving it one notch up. Who knows, it may have even been a new reviewer. Hope it's great! But I wouldn't go in assuming it'll be better based on the score.

Once again, Andrew Groen busts in with the hard knowledge and facts! I miss the Ask GR Anything columns, buddy. You're right that I shouldn't assume it will be better based on the Famitsu score, but... Can't I dream?

Will we ever see a tales game on the 360 again I thought Tales of Vesperia was great and the 360 really needs some great JRPGs right now
  • kermit15 - July 6, 2012 3:17 p.m.

Tales of Vesperia was an amazing game. I put at least 300-400 hours and I'd absolutely do it again. I also agree that the 360 could use a good JRPG or just about anything that isn't a shooter
