Sonic Lost World heading exclusively to Wii U and 3DS

A Nintendo Direct broadcast today has solved the mystery of Sonic Lost Worlds, which was trademarked recently by Sega: It's a new Sonic the Hedgehog adventure heading to 3DS and Wii U.

Nintendo's president, Satoru Iwata, explained that Sega and Nintendo have entered into a partnership to bring the game exclusively to Nintendo consoles and that more details will be announced at this year's E3.

Sega has since issued a statement which says: “SEGA have chosen to exclusively partner with Nintendo to distribute or publish the next three Sonic the Hedgehog titles throughout Europe and Australia.   The deal will cover the recently announced Sonic Lost World™, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games™ plus one other to-be-revealed title.  This is a strategic partnership that does not affect our existing distribution network across these territories and with whom we are looking forward to working with on the upcoming releases of Total War™: Rome II and Company of Heroes 2™.”

The biggest announcement in the rest of the broadcast was that of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games 2014 heading exclusively to Wii U and 3DS.

I wonder if the "one other to-be-revealed title" will be the long awaited sequel to Sonic Spinball, because forget Half-Life 3, that's the one we're really waiting for!

There was actually a little tease before. I dont know if it was confirmed to be true but a tweet of a dev asking what they should do next for Sonic Allstars Transformed had a comment of DLC which resulted in a reply saying they are working on something and to an extent "Who would win in a race", someone else said "Finally the Pac-Man World Rally crossover I’ve been waiting for.” only to have the dev reply "I was thinking there are bigger rivals, but I’ll bear it in mind” AKA the 3rd game will probably be a Cross-over of Sega Allstars and Mario Kart, CAN YOU IMAGINE

  • BladedFalcon - May 17, 2013 8:49 a.m.

...It's a Sonic game still handled by SEGA, it's gonna take a lot of work on their part to prove this isn't yet another mediocre entry of the series.

The last few Sonic games have been amazing, so no concerns here.

"amazing"? Wow, talk about low standards. Generations was decent, but mostly because of the throwback game-play of the older games. Even the resident SEGA fanboy of GR didn't give it more than a 7. Colors was also good, but not groundbreaking. Honestly, no one but Sonic fanboys would give a crap about those games anyway. Sonic hasn't really done anything noteworthy since Sonic Adventures, and well all know how poorly that game has aged...

    Sonic Generations got an 8...

Huh, you're right, my memory failed me this time. Well I'll take back what I said regarding the score then.

Compared to their last games, (Sonic and the Black Knight on Wii was the most horrible thing i have ever seen, ITS NOTHING BUT HACK N SLASH) Sega slightly got it right with Colors because its gimmicks focused on the actual gameplay this time, but the voice acting was atrocious. Generations was basically Fanservice that actually went well. With that said, its possible this might go well though i do heavily agree, i want Sonic Adventure terms back, Im playing the HD version of 2 and i didnt expect it to be so great.

...I actually meant that Sonic Adventure and by extension Adventure 2 were atrocious games in hindsight. They wowed everyone back then because of the graphics and the scope of the game, but the dated gameplay and terrible controls do not hold up at all. Not to mention how unbearably corny the entire cast of characters and music is.
