Rumor: Just Cause 3 next year? Let's hope so

Avalanche Studios, developer of 2006's Just Cause and its 2010 sequel, is “hard at work” on a third installment in the popular roam-'em-up series, says an undisclosed source in the latest issue of Xbox World. The title, according to XBW's mole, will be ready for a 2012 release. Of course, there have been other hints at such an eventuality, should one be inclined to look for them.

Above: Just Cause is the sort of series where this kind of thing is par for the course. Nobody would blame you for wanting to do more of it

Avalanche's most recent release was last month's Amiga-esque download title Renegade Ops, but the company told Edge earlier this year that it had four other games in development. Put this together with studio head Christofer Sundberg's statement that fans “shouldn't be surprised” to see another Just Cause, and you have... well, you have a picture of a talented outfit working hard on a lot of projects, but there's also the strong possibility that the 2012 holds water. Would you be excited to return to Just Cause?

Agreed this is not even confirmed yet, it is just rumours. If they dont release a Just Cause 3 it would just be stupid, its Avalanche Studios biggest hit! Great comment by "Sir Ninja" you summed it up best dude. Great game, it by Just Cause 3 with my eyes closed, more fun then GTA which doesnt compared to all out fun and action!

This isn't even confirmed and I'm already more excited for it than GTAV. I just wonder how they'll top a game like Just Cause 2, but I'm sure they'll manage to pull it off beautifully.

"Why in the world did you launch that boat off an island into a gas station, grapple to a helicopter 60 feet behind you, kill both passengers, fly that helicopter into another helicopter, detonate a military jeep with C4, steal a tank and run over several civilians?" *sunglasses* Just Cause.

Hell yes. Just Cause 2 was incredible. An crazy-huge open world, a grappling hook that could latch onto anything, jet surfing (let that one sink in for a bit), thousands of upgrades to collect and places to find, near-endless amounts of stuff to creatively blow up...good times all around. The most fun I've had with a game of that type in a long long time. Probably since San Andreas. If they can top that, JC3 will be THE game to beat in 2012.

Saints Row, Just CAuse, GTA, looks like someone up there likes me.

I was cursed in Just Cause 2. Literally every attempt at flying a plane ended in flames. And yet, it was friggin' hilarious. I would SO buy Just Cause 3 if it existed.

No game has ever allowed me to send a plane into a dive, jump out at the last second, rappel to a helicopter, and watch the explosion light up the whole damn island, use the helicopter to destroy the enemy's whole armada, then send that helicopter careening into a gas station to watch the second set of fireworks. Or attach a bad guy to a propane tank, shoot it, and watch both fly with utter glee, or attach a civilian to a plane and soar to near space.

Hell yes! I've been waiting for news for this like for forever! Also, a lot of news on open world games recently JC3, GTAV... coincidence?
  • slowdrum13 - October 26, 2011 5:05 p.m.

JC2 is absolutely the best open world game I've ever played.

I literally let out an audible gasp when I saw this headline. MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Gimmeh! I still have yet to complete Just Cause 2, but it seems the sort of thing I usually do with open world games....Everything but the main storyline XD
