Red Dead Redemption update fixes multiplayer annoyances

Shares

We all know how slowly time passes when you’re waiting to recover from being drunk – those readers who can confirm how refreshing the cool porcelain of the toilet bowl can feel know what we’re talking about. Publisher Rockstar can't find a better hangover recipe for you in real life, but it can help your virtually inebriated in-game character. A new patch corrects a bug in Red Dead Redemption that sometimes causes characters to stay drunk forever.

That, along with a variety of other glitch fixes, new features, and process changes, make up a new update that hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the bug-riddled Wild West title today.

Red Dead Redemption has a very fleshed-out "getting drunk" mechanism, but sometimes a character's drunk setting would never stabilize

If you really hate that guy who keeps going around and killing you in the online Free Roam mode, you're not alone. Now, anyone who kills six people in a row without dying will be designated a "Public Enemy," and a $1000 bounty will be placed on his head. And if you really suck and get killed within 80 seconds of respawning, three times in a row, you'll have the option to respawn somewhere else.

Most of the other changes in the update are relatively minor. For example, players can swap their L1/L2 and R1/R2 shoulder buttons, and can save their game with cheats turned on.

There were also problems with the game accidentally deactivating the invincibility cheat if players went into Dead Eye mode, not showing purchased download outfits in some menus, and having a player automatically and permanently follow another. All fixed, apparently.

And finally, one of the most ridiculous bugs in the game is patched - when players equipped the bandana accessory and walked through a sliding door, the door would become attached to their head. We’re actually kind sad to see this one go, to be honest.

Gamers will be prompted to download the update the next time they go online. It is a mandatory update.

Im pleased to hear they'll be giving an option to respawn in another area. with how easy it is to actually die, especially at the hands of another player, its really annoying when you get someone in the game who goes out of your way to repeatedly hunt and gun you down. Hell, I once had a small gang of players start chasing and repeatedly killing me, just because I strayed too close to where they were playing.

Wait, since when could you play as Red Harlowe? Awesome! Too bad that the glitches in this article can't be fixed, amiright?! Only kidding, Mark. Wow... huh, good stuff.

@Dorito72, thats pretty gutting to be honest because the 1st time i got hammered i went to try an walk up the stairs, fell back, fell forward and face planted the piano player, the john got up an was completely sober! other than that i've had no trouble with glitches on this, just the monkeys that spawn kill online...and boo to them.

haha i got drunk at armadillo and walked all the way around the building, down the street, and back before i finally passed out. sure, it was annoying, but it was also pretty hilarious. i thought the game purposefully altered how long you were drunk at times. such a good game, either way.

I have to say for all the good they've added, placing a bounty on a person who gets 6 kills is a bit extreme. I personally think at 6 kills, your targeting mode should automatically change to expert, then at 8 kills place the bounty. Makes more sense to me, as I rack up that many kills DEFENDING myself from people who wont leave me alone! Oh and I hope they remove that Deadeye Throwing knife hack too, and fast.

Ah, I see they have patched the Mel Gibson Bug

i may actually give the multiplayer another shot now. they mustve been aware that the ps3 online has more tumbleweeds than players in it.

I assume trophies are still disabled with cheats on, but I never understood why you couldn't save anyway with them on. It's nice to be able to play all powered up using cheats sometimes, if you don't care about trophies.
