Portal 2 DLC to be released this summer

In an interview with Fast Company, Valve marketing VP Doug Lombardi declared that Portal 2 DLC is coming this summer, and that details on the content should be revealed shortly.

"We will be announcing some DLC for it, so folks can keep a look out for more content coming this summer," said Lombardi. "We'll be putting more details out about that in a week or so. We'll support that with more videos or more comics."

Aside from telling GameSpot that the announcement should be made "before this week is over," Lombardi didn't elaborate further on the DLC. Our best guess is that the expansion will include new co-op chambers, though it's possible that advanced single-player chambers will be released as well.

Or maybe more hats.

I'm leaning towards hats or new cosmetic items, given the direction Valve's been moving in these last few years.

I'd like challenge rooms please! Like least amount of portals, quickest time etc. Was surprised they weren't in there to begin with.

Single player levels with one robot?

I bet they could have easily just put it in the original game. I hate it when game companies do this! So basically we will be paying £40 not £30 for the full game.

I guess Valve will put this out for free like they usually do but why didn't they just stick it in the box? Not complaining, just sayin' is all. Captcha: Limesemen stand WTF?
  • AngryScotsman - April 28, 2011 6:47 a.m.

I have a feeling that it may also be free on the PS3, what with Steam on there and everything. If indeed it is free on Steam, although there's no reason to assume that Valve would now start charging for their own DLC, especially on Steam.

Oh yes please! I've already beaten the story and co-op twice, once w/ my brother and once w/ a random person... MOAR!!
  • Crabhand - April 28, 2011 3:59 a.m.

I'm just looking for "free for PC" like the TF2 and L4D updates. I pretty much buy Valve games on PC because they make the new content free.

@bigwill Given that we learn that Wheatley and GlaDOs literally have to test otherwise they will malfunction, it would be safe to say that the Cooperation Initiative takes place after Chell is kicked out. It would be the only way for GlaDOs to keep functioning after she gets rid of her human tester.

    Custom levels PLEASE!
  • WeinerlessSteve - April 28, 2011 2:57 a.m.

I would like more hats please. If they do not release more hats we will trash the user score on megacritic! Valve is forgetting the HABERDASHER COMMUN ITY!!!!!1!!1

At first I thought I read Duke Lombardi.

@Person5 It's not like you haven't been used to see early DLC. Hell, some developers put out DLC on the f***ing release date? How in the world can you complain about a DLC released 2 to 4 months after the game? Now the idea of DLC itself might put you off, and I would understand. I have high hopes that Valve will release a reat DLC at a decent price.
  • D0CCON - April 28, 2011 2:08 a.m.

@Person5 Yeah, the developer that gives more free stuff than any other developer I know is at risk of looking too greedy. If you don't like it, wait for all the user made maps that will soon be appearing (on consoles as well). And who says the DLC won't be free. I bet it will be on PC, I wouldn't be surprised if its free on PS3 (with Steam integration and all), and Valve may get MS to put it up for free on 360 as well.
  • Person5 - April 28, 2011 2:04 a.m.

The game came out, what? Last week? Already DLC is announced for roughly 2 months after it is released which makes it seem that if there was a slight delay for the release it could have been implemented INTO the game. I do love Portal but seriously, I really do hate DLC that comes out so close to the release date, it just seems like another way to get more money out of it, and VALVe really doesn't need any more of those accusations...
  • marioman50 - April 28, 2011 2:03 a.m.

@FlamingNinjaBob The DLC is probably just going to be more co-op levels, and (in case you didn't know) the co-op levels take place outside the single player campaign's story.

All together now, everyone: LEVEL EDITOR! LEVEL EDITOR! LEVEL EDITOR! I know that's not going to happen, but yay, any Portal 2 DLC is good news for me.
  • drunkunicron - April 28, 2011 1:40 a.m.

And thus the angels sang from the heavens that portal 2 would get DLC.
