Pikmin 3 was one of the first real games revealed for the Wii U, and fans have been waiting patiently for the game as it slowly move from an expected launch game all the way out of the launch window. At this morning's Nintendo Direct there was finally some new info on the game, and afterwards Nintendo of America announced via press release that the "game launches in stores and in the Nintendo eShop on Aug. 4."

We're not sure why Nintendo didn't reveal this in the actual Nintendo Direct, but it's great to see the game finally get a firm launch date. Above you'll not only see what seems to be the final box art for the game, but also the new Flying Pikmin, a new breed of bug man that's being added for the Wii U release. We can't wait.

By the way, the boxart is really nice and crisp looking, love it.

My birthday is August 2, no greater gift than a game I have been waiting for over 5 years.

I saw it on the Nintendo direct, the flying pikmin look AWESOME Also, Notice, it has the Nintendo Network Logo, COULD THIS MEAN WHAT I THINK IT IS!? ONLINE CO-OP!?!?

Don't get my hopes up! Campaign co-op alone would be insanely fun, but an online battle mode would make this my game of the decade.

I just remembered, most Wii U games get The Nintendo Network Icon because of the Miiverse integration, its not a confirmation for anything but Miiverse but we can still hope. Miyamoto will no doubt make Pikmin 3 worth while but having Multiplayer will be great

That Flying Pikmin looks kinda creepy if I'm honest. But hey, the way they showed them attacking the Snitchbug was pretty cool use for them. I guess there'll be some more flying enemies this time around. Sure hope this turns out well because this is still the only game I would buy a WiiU for :/

inb4 Flying Waterwraiths because Miyamoto thought Pikmin 2 was too casual

You're right, Pikmin seems to exist at the apex of passively cute-looking things that are actually turn out to be absolutely terrifying.

I think that's a hilarious part about it. I tell all my friends about how much I love Pikmin and most have at least heard of it and seen a bit of it, and most judge it as a cutesy kid game... If they knew the god damn hardcore madness behind it, the heat of the moment when you have Pikmin dying like crazy and you are cussing up a storm. It's really too bad that people judge games by their art style and graphics because Pikmin is a badass game.

Cover looks great, but wish it was out already.
