Online multiplayer revealed for Grand Theft Auto V

GTA 5's online multiplayer expands the open-world hub and competitive/cooperative activity spokes of Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption. See how Los Santos and Blaine County work for everything from friendly exploration to organized heists in the trailer below.

Rockstar didn't specify how matchmaking will occur outside of the optional heists and other missions; Red Dead Redemption hosted lobbies of about 16 players who were free to team up, feud, or completely ignore each other in favor of more structured content, so we may see the same approach here.

Although the trailer only mentioned races and deathmatches as potential player creations, we can always hope for an endless stream of player-made heists to enter the rotation someday.

I really like what Rockstar are attempting with this but if GTAIV is anything to go by, the open world online will probably be one giant riot overwatched by a hundred snipers.

GamesRadar forgot to mention that GTA Online is launching on the 1st of October, which I think is a good move from Rockstar because it'll give people more of a chance to play the story first, and familiarise themselves with the city, mechanics, etc. Of course, I have a whole lot of assignments due around that time, and then my break is the day before MP's launched, but I still think that launching the MP later is a pretty rockin' idea.
