Kevin Spacey’s Old Vic staging of Shakespeare’s
was the hottest of hot tickets and went on to tour the world. Three years on, here is the home video: a backstage record of how the production took shape, complete with rehearsal room footage, luvvie back-slapping and scenic pit-stops at international locales.

Sam Mendes in contrast remains a peculiarly invisible presence, inadvertently suggesting that a theatre director’s role is largely irrelevant once the show is up and running.
