New Pikmin 3 footage is as lovely as sparkling dew on a freshly mown spring lawn

Today's Japanese Nintendo Direct might have been a bit thin in terms of megaton news (the focus was very much on the upcoming Japanese launch), but it did drop one very pleasing bit of footage.

Due for release in March 2013, Pikmin 3 is looking lovely these days, as evidenced by these new clips. The video shows off some co-op action, as well as a new giant moth beastie seemingly intent on inhaling all of the Pikmin until there are no Pikmin left. Click, enjoy, and then rather sadly remember that you won't be playing it until spring next year.

But still, giant moths.

That's looking good. Judging from the looks of it, I'd say this is before they've had the chance to flesh out the textures for some of the environments. Looks aside, really good. Also, can anyone tell me what the heck those jagged rock Pikmin things are that are following Olimar? What good is a rock Pikmin? Also, I've seen some unholy, demonic, and downright cruel things that only exist to destroy in Pikmin games before, OH HOLY JESUS is that moth thing terrifying. The absolute worst thing about the vicious creatures in Pikmin games - which only seems to exacerbate their usual propensity for merciless violence and unthinking murder - is that sometimes at first glance, the creature in question appears cute, adorable even. But then you approach a bit closer, and the nature of its being makes itself abundantly clear... when it's unveiled a new and horrifying way for your Pikmin to meet their demise. Worse still is how the games will continue to come up with disturbing (sometimes just wholly sadistic) levels to which creatures will go to senselessly massacre your faithful plant men... some ways of which even defy logic or simple animalistic intention. Sure, plenty of creatures are content to devour them, but some are clearly made and designed to make you cringe at how swiftly and brutally your adventures can end. Pikmin games are great like that.

I agree completely As for your question, the new rock pikmin, cant grapple(i think), but can smash glass, which other pikmin cant, back at E3, the demo had a giant centipede with a glass shell as a boss and you needed the Rock pikmin to break his protection. Also they have rugged lines that are all different patterns for every Rock Pikmin, which is a very unique touch

I just noticed, near the end you can see what seems to be PINK PIKMIN still stuck underground and not yet plucked, %100 its those flying Pink pikmin from the E3 trailer

SO. MUCH. DEATH. This might be a pretty tough experience by the looks of it and enemies are rampant.

The photorealistic is this game is gorgous despite the weak ground grass texture, otherwise everything else is stunning, Nintendo is really loving the lighting effect, everything has one just pushing the Photorealistic (which is different from the realistic we've seen in games right now) Damn, awesome to see Nintendo not handholding, that moth is vicious, and not only does that goddamn crab blocks your attacks with his claw but also grabs them too, eat them and even blows bubbles that can push your pikmin and you away! And don't even get me started on that cave, Bulbears and Blowhogs in the darkness!? Your killing me! GOOD.

That's looking pretty damned amazing, if maybe a little too crammed with enemies? Seriously, it looked like the cave area was packed. Speaking of which, has Nintendo actually confirmed dungeons for this game yet? 'Cos with all those Glowcaps it looked like one of Pikmin 2's subterranean caverns. Still, I'm hoping this game is good because thus far it's the only one that will tempt me to buy a Wii U.
