Phoenix Wright is back in judicial action this fall. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies will bring the shouty defense attorney back to the courtroom for the first time in years in an eShop title for 3DS.

Dual Destinies is download-only in North America and Europe. That doesn't mean Capcom's scaling the game itself back, though.

It's presented in full 3D, a first for the series, with cel-shaded characters and environments that mimic the previous games' distinct art style. Three-dimensional graphics means more interactive investigation scenes and clues to find.

Even Mr. Wright's meat-and-potatoes--intense courtroom cross-examinations--are aided by a new junior associate named Athena Cykes. Ms. Cykes uses some kind of future law technology to decode witnesses' testimony onto a "mood matrix."

Knowing whether witnesses are happy, sad, angry, or surprised on the stand is an effective new way to catch contradictions before that oh-so-important "OBJECTION!"

I'm not happy about a digital only release. I have all the box spines lined up so neatly on my shelf... They should do a boxed release of Perfect Prosecutor 2 and Ace Attorney 5, and sell it only through their online store! Who cares about shops! People buy online anyway these days.

Yes, yes, yes. This looks amazing!
  • JMarsella09 - May 13, 2013 8:47 p.m.

Yes! I love this series and will always want more.

Hell yeah! Awesome news! And honestly, I'm glad they're making it available on the E-shop :D Titles like these are honestly pretty hard to find in physical form here in Mexico >>; And man... Seeing the trailer has made me so damn Pumped, Phoenix is back! (Which let's be real, he's a far more enjoyable protagonist than Apollo...) but best of all? NEW SIDEKICK Man, I may not know how Athena is gonna turn out, I'm so damn glad Maya is gone, I was incredibly annoyed by her >_>; But yeah, it's also a good side that she's not a little girl for starters, and hopefully none of the cases will put her as a damsel in distress. That plot device needs to die. Also, this is the kind of 2D to 3D conversion I can totally get behind of, just like with the new Pokemon games, here the 3D models look like more fluid representations of cartoon characters, instead of the more generic looking models of, say, the new Link to the past sequel...

I agree. Some people cant get over the fact that Maya's done with and are just blabbing "WHERE'S MAYA!?" Even after the Cross-over with Layton AND being featured in a Fighting game with Wright. Maya wasnt actually good Personality wise, her story was the main appeal and thats it. Apollo is key in this game actually, the name "Dual Destinies" comes from the fact that they will both star in their own cases, to which i hope they push Apollo's background more. And the 3D Models, you nailed it. Its actually better than how Wright was in Layton's 3D Engine, and thats mainly because Capcom wants to reflect the same Ace Attorney style, which is why they are so much more fluid instead of simply "ITS 3D MODELS, BOOM THERE YOU GO"

...Oh, we're getting more apollo...? yaaaay? Wait, does that also mean we're getting more Trucy? if so, then count me in! Although I found Apollo to be bland, Trucy kinda made up for it by being everything that Maya wasn't: Smart, clever, useful, talented and charming. Also... I'd argue that Maya's story is good mostly because of the other characters involved in her story and not so much because of her. Mia, Morgan, Godot And Dahlia are what made her plot shine, not Maya herself.

So far nothing is confirmed on anyone esle besides Apollo, there was even a screenshot of Athena IN the Wright and co. Agency background and case 2 stars Apollo with Athena as a partner, so right now, Trucy is not on sight. Your right, thats pretty much what i mean, Maya was only ever good story wise, her family heritage was basically the focus. Also here, take a look at Apollo, due note though, this is literally in the first case, where he shows up late to talk about the case, your gonna be suprised, its never fully explained what happened but its probably gonna be obvious, though he's perfectly normal in the cases where you use him.
  • BladedFalcon - May 13, 2013 8:20 p.m.

    Oh right!!! I now remember seeing this screenshot! Well, I guess he looks kinda more badass... but not much point if he's gonna revert back to boring old Apollo later on >>;
  • shawksta - May 13, 2013 10:11 p.m.

Not actually "revert", see the first case seems to happen in the future, the cases where you'll use Apollo seems to be in the past, and his condition happens from a guess which will probably be right, he was a victim of the bombing. Either way, this game is having interesting roles, kinda like Wright and Mia from T andT except it's pushing the concept to share the focus on Wright and Apollo. The emotion is a real interesting mechanic, and who knows what surprises they have. The prosecutor was recently shown as well, interesting concept of being a jailed man whose only way out is being a prosecutor but still has to be handcuffed throughout, and has a little "friend". How he plays into it will be interesting, especially if they decide to make a case about how he got jailed in the first place.
  • BladedFalcon - May 14, 2013 8:12 a.m.

Huh, the cuffed thing seems interesting. But he has a tall order as a prosecutor, since well- Klavier, Manfred, Godot And Miles were all pretty damn fun to contend with. This guy looks like he means business, yes, I just hope he's not dull. Also, for the big villian, I hope they learned their lesson from Apollo Justice, and NOT make him just a deranged, bullshit "I had it all figured out!" kind of figure. Either make him cold and ruthless like the police chief in the extra case of justice for all, or make them batshit emotional like Dahlia, NOT both.
  • shawksta - May 14, 2013 9:26 a.m.

I know what you mean, Apollo's villain had the dumbest bullshit of a plan and motive was the most retarded thing I ever seen. Though I really wouldn't worry, it's handled part by the Edgeworth team who frankly did a fantastic job on his Japan jailed sequel. The villain in that game was the biggest throw off, and actually had a very menacing appeal without over doing it, and they learned from their mistake of Edgeworths first game by not having the villain pull bullshit excuses to make the case longer than it has to be.
  • shawksta - May 13, 2013 2:17 p.m.

"Don't let her seemingly innocent appearance fool you" Oh yeah sure, when it's on Wrights side, you call bullshit. THE PAYNE TRAIN AIN'T STOPPING

"Dual Destinies" Awesome name, great to see Capcom push the game so much but Eshop only? Not retail? Hmm...... If capcom thinks its better for themselves and the fans, then they need to advertise allot, get Nintendo to get the Eshop to advertise it, and especially provide at least a 3D Trailer in the Eshop, Nintendo does it on all their games, if they are gonna make the game an Eshop game, then get it known And while your at it, this is the perfect chance to localize Ace Attorney Investivations 2 Capcom, not being retail should make it easier for you. Either way, Dual Destinies is looking great

I've never played a Pheonix Write game, but this looks very interesting. Only Japan can make judicial system look badass.
  • Frieza - May 13, 2013 3:22 p.m.

Holy crap, I wrote "Write". I'm embarrassed. Sorry everyone!
