Gears of War: Judgement - title and characters revealed

It seems Game Informer was just too excited to hold back revealing the covers of next month's issue. Now that they have, we know that the next Gears of War will be subtitled "Judgement" and will be starring the straight laced Baird and the Cole Train himself. Take a look at their faces, though. They have obviously less wrinkly, war warn skin suggesting that Gears of War: Judgement will be a prequel. We'll get more details during Microsoft's E3 press conference on Monday, June 4 at 9:30AM pacific time. In the meantime, feel free to speculate over the images below.

One of my favourite franchises. And, in my opinion, about the best shooter available. Looking forward to this.

Its funny how some people misunderstand develops when they say "last of trilogy". It doesnt mean it will be the last of a title but more of last of the story or a particular timeline or in Marvel's case Universe

I hope we see some gameplay if not screenshots at E3. It looks to me like a GOW 1 scenario where they give prisoners guns to fight the war. Looking forward to seeing how this will deviate from the past 3 games.

This is bullshit!!! GOW3 Was the last game! WHY ARE THEY MAKING ANOTHER!!
  • Slayer11496 - June 2, 2012 6 a.m.

Epic always wanted to do prequels or other stories
  • MasterBhater - June 2, 2012 7:48 a.m.

There's a LOT left to tell in the Gears universe. Yes, Gears 3 was the last game CHRONOLOGICALLY, but there hasn't been a Gears game yet that has tackled the very BEGINNING of the Locust War, or even the Pendulum Wars.

Its the end of the story. You're a fool if you thought that they would just end a multi-million dollar franchise just to "leave it at that." If there's money involved, it won't end. Activision isn't the only company to do this, but they're the extreme side of corporate gaming. Hopefully Epic doesn't end up like them. This is just a prequel (as you can tell by the fact that there are Locust in the picture), it seems to take place when Baird JUST joined the COG and got court martialed for a fight I believe, and Cole saved his ass.

Honestly I wasn't expecting another Gears of War title.......Oh well curious how this one will try 2 capture peoples attention.
  • EwoksTasteLikeChicken - June 1, 2012 10:02 p.m.

Does this mean we get to fight in the Pendulum Wars? Honestly I think that would be a lot more fun that fighting the Locust.

In my opinion, Epic is really stupid for not wanting to take the money from ps3 users. I mean, I could see it being an microsoft only exclusive forever if epic was microsoft owned, but they are not. Epic is a third party developer, so they should realize that they could recieve shyt loads of money from porting gears 1-3 over.
  • TCMU287 - June 1, 2012 7:28 p.m.

Well the same can be said for every developer, can't it. Exclusivity does nothing but hurt the consumer who like games on both consoles. Plus, it feeds the never ending console wars.
  • Tjwoods18 - June 1, 2012 7:58 p.m.

I can see how some games remain exclusive, I.e., naughty dog (sony owned), Halo (microsoft owned), but it does not make since the way that epic does things.
  • CombatWombat101 - June 2, 2012 9:26 a.m.

Sure it does. Can you fathom how much money Microsoft is willing to pay to keep the Gears franchise exclusive? And that's money that they're guaranteed. They have a piece of paper saying "We will definitely make <amount>," rather than porting Gears over to the PS3 and hoping that they make enough sales to justify it.

WOOOOO!! COLE TRAIN BABY! UP YO ASS! (then) Aw, man, Now I feel all emotional and shit. Sniff... (then) WOOOO!!! MAKE WAY, BABY!
  • TCMU287 - June 1, 2012 5:49 p.m.

Ugh. I can't believe this. So basically a spin off featuring these to "characters" means the hatred inducing dialogue will be super concentrated. Although they do have Bulletstorm's developer working on it. That might make it bearable.
  • XD00175 - June 1, 2012 5:05 p.m.

A prequel? With my two favorite characters? This is too awesome.
  • Z-man427 - June 1, 2012 4:34 p.m.

I knew it would be a prequel, but I did not expect these two. It has potential to be great though. As long as the difficulty isn't so weird like in Gears 3.
  • shadow707 - June 1, 2012 4:21 p.m.

Wow, I was expecting a prequel with marcus...But these 2!? Now I'm excited
  • jackthemenace - June 1, 2012 4:15 p.m.

YES. For a start, I'd love to point out that not even an hour ago did I call that it wasn't going to be Marcus. Second, YES. BAIRD. Not so excited to see Cole again, but I'm super-excited to see Baird. Of ALL the characters, i never thought Baird would get his own spin-off. Cole, maybe, but not Baird. I hope he doesn't exist within it purely as Cole's sidekick.
